Temple-North Texas (Senior Day)

Temple +5.5

I saw this on the owlsports game preview:

“Temple will honor seniors Steve Settle III, Jamal Mashburn Jr., Christian Tomasco, Matteo Picarelli, and Shane Dezonie for their contributions on the hardwood, in the classroom, and in the community at approximately 1:40 p.m. Additionally, senior managers Morgan Truckermiller, Lucas Gall, Caleb Brennan, Ryan Lenkaitis, and Abhijit Choudhury will be recognized.”

Good luck to all of them.

I think between the 4 scholarship guys above (who I think are out of eligibility) plus Greer gone (but with the 2 high school signed recruits), Temple has 3 openings for the portal. Guess we see how many total open scholarships are available as would think a few with more with eligibility hit the portal.

Who's playing and who out at Tulsa tonight

Based upon conversations we've had with numerous sources, it sounds like Steve Settle III and Quante Berry will return for Temple tonight, while Jamal Mashburn Jr. will remain out as he continues to monitor his toe injury. There's a possibility that Adam Fisher might bring Berry off the bench to blend him back into the Owls' rotation.

WSJ Most Valuable College Football Programs

This seems like a very good showing for Temple as they are near the top of the AAC and have been awful at football for a half decade. I do find it hard to believe that Memphis is below Temple or Wyoming is anywhere near that high. If this list is accurate, I would think AAC teams move to the PAC 12 if offered and the money is right looking at the top G5 teams (though WSU and OSU are inflated some by being P5 teams historically).

Owls(+1) on the road...

...at USF in another game they'll have to win if they expect to secure a top 4 in the American and a bye in conference tournament. I say this basically looking at the Memphis game as likely loss. This point spread has been bouncing around...saw Owls were favored by 1 earlier this morning. We are probably in for another sweat.

USF is 4-5 in AAC and 11-11 overall with zero quality wins and lost at home to Bethune-Cookman!

They rank #200 in NET where Temple is #129, FWIW.

Jayden Reid and our old pal, Jamie Reynolds are the players to watch.

Owls need some road wins...last one was at Rice and I believe the only other came at Hofstra.

I sure hope Dezonie is available tonight!

Taking mailbag questions until 2:30 p.m. today

Good afternoon, everyone.

We're taking mailbag questions until 2:30 p.m. today for this week's episode of The Scoop.

Most of this week's pod will consist of my interview with former ESPN NBA insider and new St. Bonaventure men's basketball GM Adrian Wojnarowski and ESPN's Kevin Negandhi as the Feb. 25 NIL event at Mitten Hall approaches, but we'll still talk about the men's and women's hoops teams and anything else you'd like to put on the agenda.

Thanks as always for listening!
