The Scoop mailbag questions

We should have a great episode of The Scoop for you all this week. In addition to what we're hoping will be a great interview with former Temple great Marc Jackson, we'll also be talking some football as well. Sam Neumann got some interesting stuff today from linebacker Kobe Wilson for a story we'll have out soon, and we'll talk more about the roster as the program looks ahead to spring ball.

If you have mailbag questions, please post them here and we'll answer them on the podcast. Thank you as always for listening!

Want to be both impressed & proud . . . . . It's all good with TU athletes academically - as they set fall semester records!

Whether in the classroom or in a remote learning situation, our student athletes sure delivered the mail in the just concluded fall semester, as reported today in owlsports.com.

It marks the fifth straight semester Temple student-athletes have earned over a 3.20 combined GPA, while being enrolled in 87 different academic majors. It is also the 18th straight semester grade point average above a 3.00. The combined grade point average: 3.39 . . . . . the number with a perfect 4.0. . . . . 52!

Spectacular! Congrats, all!

WHIP Sports Interview with Mike Aresco

Great job by a couple Temple students getting an in depth interview with AAC Commisioner Mike Aresco. They discuss multiple topics but at about 46 minutes, they ask about Boise/expansion. While Aresco acknowledges he can’t get into specifics, he does say the AAC wants to get back to 12 (which isn’t new) but also mentions possibly looking at 14 in the future (which is news as that is the first time he said this publicly).

Transfer News

Per a source, Temple is expected to receive the commitment of UNC Defensive Tackle transfer Xach Gill soon. Gill was originally a 4-star prospect out of Wake Forest HS in 2017 and chose North Carolina over Penn State, Miami (FL), Pitt and Virginia Tech. Rivals had Gill as the No. 17 defensive tackle in the 2017 class. Gill was an All-State selection in North Carolina after posting 84 tackles, 34 TFL and 18 sacks as a senior.

At UNC, Gill recorded 17 tackles, 2.5 TFL and two sacks. In 2019, Gill played 137 defensive snaps and graded out, according to Pro Football Focus, as UNC's third best DT. Gill started against Wake that season as a redshirt-sophomore and led the Tar Heels with two QB pressures en route to being rated as UNC's second best defensive player by PFF. In 2020, Gill's role diminished as former 4-star prospect Myles Murphy surpassed him on the depth chart.

Gill will have two years of eligibility left at Temple.
