OT: 4 PM Today at Liacouris Center

For those of you who are local and are looking for something different to do today.....

Our very own Mission Man's grand daughter, Abby Sharpe, will be playing basketball in the District Championship at 4 pm at Liacouris.

Abby is a star 5' 11 junior guard on the undefeated Plymouth Whitemarsh girls basketball team. She has multiple D-1 offers - the girl can play.

Come sit behind Tonya and ask her why she isn't recruiting her like other teams in the AAC, A-10, Big East, CAA etc.

Autograph and photo session after the game. Well, maybe....

Temple All Conference Awards

Sam Cohn tweeted about it. Damian Dunn second team all AAC and Jahlil White + Zach Hicks all freshman team.

Went to media guide to get some perspective and only twice in school history back to 1983-1984 did we have 2 guys named to the all freshman team same season. I'm not sure the all freshman team concept existed prior to that... but 93-94 Johnny Miller + Lynard Stewart and 96-97 Pepe Sanchez + Rasheed Brokenborough.

Further, we've only had 2 players named all freshman team total since 07-08. Quinton Rose in 16-17 and NPL in 17-18. So we had as many this year as we've had in the last 14-15 seasons total combined.

And this is even weirder because Damian Dunn is technically a freshman even though he's been here 3 years. So we basically had 3 freshmen recognized with postseason awards.

Really incredible thing getting built right now.

Standing by Coach Aaron McKie.

Unlike the fire the coach people I’m willing to give Aaron a 3rd and 4th season. If after 4 seasons he has no improvement to show (getting to the tournament) then I’ll support a change. We all know Temple can’t afford two major coaching changes in the same year, so let’s table the talk… more importantly I want to spare some on here the embarrassment of looking back on their panic. If I’m wrong; I’ll eat major crow.
-Frankly, I really consider this year his second season — last year was a wash and they barely played
-One of the youngest teams per KenPom
-We will never get the best players until we can get relevant by making the tourney regularly,…recruiting and building takes time and we haven’t been relevant in a decade at least
-The fire the coach crowd is bi-polar… after the vandy game it was “Aaron and this team are great”… I’m glad none of you are in charge of running our university because it’s despicable reactionary behavior from some message board blowhards…
- Things are heading in the right direction as we have seen great flashes this season…They had a really bad game…It happens, especially to young teams in Dec

Spring football practice schedule and media availability

Hi, everyone.

As you know, Temple is kicking off spring practice this Friday. Here's a look at the practice schedule and media availability that was sent to us.

As of now, it looks like we'll be talking to Stan Drayton prior to the first eight spring practices before we start getting the assistant coaches and players. The interviews with Danny Langsdorf, D.J. Eliot and the players will happen after practice. And although the schedule is subject to change, it looks like all of the practices and the spring game will be at Edberg-Olson Hall.

Media will be able to watch the first 15 minutes of practice this spring. As of now, I don't anticipate that we'll see much more than stretching or some light drill work during that time.

Temple's Pro Day will be Wednesday, March 23, at the STAR Complex. Media will be able to watch the broad jump, 3-cone drills and the 40-yard dash. We do not yet have a confirmed list of participants. Once we do, we'll pass that along.

Temple Ambler stadium

The highly advocated SonnyOwl Field at Wawa - Lucky Well Temple Ambler Stadium would have been in the direct path of last Wednesday’s tornado from Hurricane Ida that ripped through Upper Dublin Township and devastated the Temple Ambler campus. I am blessed that it missed my property by less than a 1/4 mile.

Temple football, being on the outside of conference realignment, certainly is dodging the financial albatross of debt service by not proceeding construction of that white elephant.

Random Thoughts from Today

Weird ceremony today, can’t imagine how it must have felt to the guys who have eligibility left who are probably returning. Good to see Jake out there, but don’t want him taking Sage’s minutes. Can’t believe UCF getting beat on that 60-footer. I’m still not sure how Tulane has the record it does, but I’d rather not play them, especially if Cooks is back. Also, I know we were missing guys in the first USF game, but I can’t believe we lost to them. My God, they are terrible. $12 for a 12 oz. Corona, wtf.

Temple Players Graduating

The end of the owl sports write up on Houston says:

Next Up
> Temple hosts South Florida Sunday (2 pm/ESPN+/1210 AM WPHT) in its final home game of the season. The five team members and two managers who are graduating this semester will be honored before the game as part of Senior Day. It will also be Hooter The Owl's birthday with mascots from around the area on hand to celebrate the university's beloved mascot.

That would seem to be Daly, Forrester, Parks, Strickland and Tolbert? They all still have eligibility but guess we see if they are moving on or not.

Tyler Matakevich content

In addition to The Scoop with my OwlScoop colleagues, I also host a podcast with Adam DiMichele called the Bleav In Temple Football podcast on the Bleav Podcast network.

We talked to Tyler Matakevich last night, and you can listen to it here if you're interested. He gave us a lot of good stuff on his memories of Temple, the 2015 season and beating Penn State, and playing now with guys like Dion Dawkins and Josh Allen.
