Bracket Matrix

Seems we are dropping daily in the bracket matrix even after last nights win. Can't say I disagree with it. Blowing a 10 point lead trying to stall at SMU and completely no showing at Tulsa will probably cost us in the end if we don't win out and then win our 1st game in the conference tournament.

22-10

I think that would be enough to make the tournament. 3 wins in a row and then a loss to Uconn in the AAC tournament first round. I think that would be enough to make it and 22 wins is what we should shoot for to make the tournament. I am more then happy with a 10-12 seed just no play in game.

Fight Song?

For many years I've enjoyed the rousing march and/or fight song the band first plays when coming on the field. They then transition to "Fight,Temple,Fight". I know several Temple fight songs with many no longer played. {eg: "Let's Cheer Again for Temple".} During the game yesterday I briefly heard the band playing the march/fight song mentioned. Might a former band member or anyone tell me more about this music? Thanks.

2 First Row Seats for Tonight are Available

I bought 4 of the best seats in the house (Section 103, Row 1) from a fellow poster, but 2 of my friends backed out and I can't find replacements. As a result, 2 are available, I am only looking to get what I paid for them - $35 each. I can meet in Center City during the day or tonight in the lobby of the LC to exchange.

If anyone is interested, please text/call me at 609-234-1790.

MARYLAND-WISCONSIN

I had the pleasure of attending this game last night, and my takeaway is that we are light years away from being a big-time program. The atmosphere was beyond any Temple home game at the LC since Fresno State or Michigan State. Those games were 16 and 17 years ago. Having EVERYONE rooting for the home team, against a great opponent is fantastic. the students are creative and relentlessly loud. The talent level on both teams is extraordinary. I realize that these are Top 10 teams, but for several years our program has been highly competitive success-wise with Maryland. They have the better recent tradition (2001 Final Four, 2002 National Champions), but their formula to get to this point was relatively simple:
1. Get rid of the "bad guys" who either can't play or are out for themselves (Nick Faust, Terrell Stoglin, Etc.). The equivalent would be telling DeCosey and potentially others to transfer.
2. Give a 2nd chance to a great player with baggage. Could any of us see Dunphy taking on Dez Wells after he was thrown out of Xavier for alleged sexual misconduct?
3. Recruit a TRANSCENDANT player. I think Jalen Brunson could have been to Temple what Melo Trimble is to Maryland. This kid is incredible and has a chance to be 1st team all Big-10 as a Freshman.
4. They have excellent depth and nice role players, including deadly shooting Temple target Jared Nickens.

This can be done, but I am fairly sure that Dunphy is the not up to this challenge.

A Better Investment Than Ads

Temple, from what I read, spent around $4,000,000 for the 30 second regional Super Bowl ad this year, and must have spent a decent amount on the same ad last night following the Oscars. Imagine how much better the return on investment would be if that money was spent on a name brand basketball coach who could both recruit and coach. How much more publicity and positive press would a real coach get for Temple by making even the "Elite Eight", compared to returns from the advertising. Dunphy makes somewhere over $1,000,000 a year. We could pay a coach $4,000,000 and get more "bang for the buck" than we do from 30 second TV ads. And we certainly could get a name brand coach for less than 4mill with our facilities, conference and media market. Additionally, and most important to me, fans would get to see better basketball. We lose to the better teams in the conference because they have more talent and equal, if not better, game day coaching. Just for fun, someone might want to figure out how much Dunphy made for each of last night's fourteen missed foul shots. You might say he isn't to blame for the players misses, however, he is to blame for the quality of the players who are missing the shots. And while I'm on this rant, we have seen how poorly the team does without Cummings, or if he gets in foul trouble. What are we going to do next year with no true point guard? Unless Dunphy pulls a decent player out of a hat, he can add another recruiting failure to the long list on his resume. Next year will be "point guard by committee."

Some really ugly basketball

The team ( Tulsa ) team shot 37 percent , 25 percent from three and about 50 percent from foul line and win by big numbers . The loser makes 1 three all day ( 1 for 15 ) , shoots 25 percent and lousy at the foul line .

I have played basketball for over 50 years and been watching for almost 55 years and basketball today is just friggin' ugly . It is just hard to watch players make just ridiculous decisions on the court, lack the good pass , and just play like nobody taught them the game . Do they listen in practice ? Kobe Bryant had a major article lately about why the European players play the game better than the kids in America . He is 100 percent correct . The game tonight was just friggin ugly . Hard to watch . Sorry to say it but just pathetic
