Petewon

Doc, Happy 90th birthday. You are truly one of the best OWLS ever! So many of us are so so grateful for all you have done for TU and TU athletics. Especially supporting football in its darkest days. Wishing you and Joan another 90 years and a win vs Penn State in September.
GO OWLS!!!

Alex Wells targeting penalty vs. Tulane

Somebody refresh my memory re the application of the NCAA rule. You may recall that in last season's finale against Tulane, Alex Wells was flagged for a targeting penalty and ejected. (Not only was I ticked because he was flagged and tossed, but there was a play later in the game where a Tulane player delivered a similarly high hit, but no flag was thrown.) The thing I'm trying to remember is whether the penalized ejected player (Wells) must sit out any or all of the next game. It would be a blow to us if he has to sit out any of the Penn State game.

Tony Carr

Figured this deserved it's own topic. A month or so ago I posted that Temple was cooling on Carr a bit. Over the past month that has done a 180. Carr has played like the top 70 recruit that he is. I was told the other day Temple is now the "heavy, heavy, heavy favorite" to land Carr. When I asked what the hold up on a commitment was I was told "some players just don't want the recruiting game to end." In the end you just need to hope you've done enough to land him.

OUR GUYS VS UCONN

I watched our guys play a complete game yesterday. Everyone contributed. Cummings played with absolute intensity without forcing anything. Jesse, Q, Obi, Bond, spread the floor, exhibited patience and smartness on offense. Watson, Coleman, and Brown understood their roles and did what they needed to do.

For the first time, I liked Watson's effort and control. He played a good 8 minutes - Dunphy used Obi more in terms of minutes played, which is precisely what we need now. Our D was the best I've seen. Morgan was especially impressive guarding Boatwright with help from Brown. We shut a good UConn team down in the second half. And, if I'm not mistaken I don't think we had any turnovers in the second half, with blistering play.

Observations: Obi is coming into his own. He was exceptional as a force on both ends of the floor. Bond is a brute. Cummings is playing with a composure and intensity that will get us into the tournament and upset a few teams. we may be peaking at the right time.

Temple's 2015 Running Back's

Ok looking ahead to spring camp I think it's important for some one to step up and seperate himself from the pack with the recruiting class that is coming in , who will it be ?

Jahad Thomas
Jamie Gilmore
Zaire Williams
David Hood
Jabo Lee

My thinking it will be either Thomas or Gilmore. Thomas brings alot to the table with his speed and open field running but i'm not sure if he is an every down type of back .

THE RETURN TO A TEMPLE BENCHMARK

In one word, DEFENSE!! In another, PROTECTING THE ROCK!! Where do we rank in the national statistics for SCORING DEFENSE and TURNOVERS? Thru this past Saturday 3/7 NCAA Stats say: Fewest TOs: 12th, TOs per game: 13th, FG Pctg. DEFENSE: 25th, Scoring Defense: 26th, Rebounds: 28th!! Not bad for statistics in categories during last season where we failed miserably!
And this is out of 345 teams in Div 1! FG Pctg. Offense this year? Ouch, 335!

BUT.....When they get hot like this past Saturday? LOOK OUT!!

GO OWLS AND GO "]["U!!

American Athletic Conference tournament

In case you haven't been following on TV today, Cincinnati beat Memphis to grab the No. 3 seed (Bearcats own the tiebreaker over Temple because they're 2-0 vs. top of the league while the Owls are 0-2). Temple is the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 seed Memphis. That game will be at 2 p.m. on ESPN2 at Hartford's XL Center.

SMU and Tulsa play at 3 p.m. in Dallas on ESPNU. The winner grabs the regular-season title and gets the No. 1 seed in the tournament. And barring a major upset in the 8-9 game, and if Temple beats Memphis, the Owls would get either SMU or Tulsa in the semifinals Saturday.

As for Memphis, the Tigers still played tough today even without leading scorer Austin Nichols. Temple has to control the pace and be tougher than them.

Although there have been various reports that have said Nichols is likely done for the year, a source I spoke with today said Nichols could still try to play. We'll see.

Kyle, Greg Paone and I will be in Hartford, so we'll have you covered up there.

AAC tournament bracket

The Next 3 Games

How about focusing on the next 3 games! I, for one, don't want to get involved in looking over my shoulder on something that is water under the bridge! They had a bad road trip at a very inopportune time! It's almost March! Let's hope they right the ship and win out so that they have some momentum going into the AAC tourney and then we all sit back and wait on Selection Sunday!

To me this season is a far cry from the 9 and 22 debacle WE ALL went through last season! You can't blame the coaches for poor shot selection! The PLAYERS PLAY THE GAME! Let's save all of the HANG THIS PERSON, FIRE THAT PERSON for AFTER THE SEASON and LET THE ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATION AND DR. THEOBOLD DECIDE WHAT TO DO! FOR NOW...

LET'S GO OWLS!! WIN OUT!! AND GO TU!! IT'S MADNESS TIME!!

OT: Syracuse Hit Hard

The NCAA on Friday has suspended Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim for nine conference games and has taken away scholarships as a result of a multiyear investigation into the university's athletic programs.
Syracuse's penalties also include a five-year probation and for the school to vacate all wins in which ineligible men's basketball students played in 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2010-11 and 2011-12 and ineligible football students played in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07.

NCAA penalizes Syracuse, Boeheim

Q on the move

Q is finally beginning to play at a high level He is playing with more confidence and with more energy as evidenced by his increase in rebounds and fewer poor passes. His one pass today was a thing of beauty. He still has yet to have found his sweet spot and he doesn't complete his drives to the rim, getting snuffed too often, but when he does both he will fully reach his potential and lead the way next year accompanied by Obi,Bond, Brown and a host of top freshmen.
