Matt Rhule interview

We spent more than an hour with Matt Rhule today. He covered just about everything from the current roster to recruiting to Robby Anderson.

Just a few quick excerpts before I head out:

- When Rhule was asked if Temple missed Anderson last season, he smiled, shrugged and said, "Yeah, we missed him."

- If the season were to start tomorrow, Rhule said, Austin Jones would be the kicker and Alex Starzyk would be the punter, although the competition there will continue.

- Delvon Randall is with the team, but he's working out at safety.

- Nate D. Smith will be in more of an outside linebacker/rush end role heading into the season, which I'm assuming clears the way for Jarred Alwan to be the middle linebacker.

- Rhule said Anderson would most likely have one year of eligibility left.

- Logan Marchi is the No. 2 quarterback heading into preseason camp.

- Lenny Williams has officially transferred, as has Shamir Bearfield.

We wanted to get the whole interview up there for you all to listen to right away, and we'll break out more excerpts and information in the coming days.

Naseir Upshur, Johncarlo Valentin

I talked yesterday to someone who's very familiar with the recruitment of Naseir Upshur and Johncarlo Valentin, Imhotep's blue-chip 4-star recruits.

The source said that while Temple is still in the mix with Upshur, Michigan and Miami will be tough to beat at this point, especially Michigan.

As for Valentin, the source said Temple has a great shot because Valentin really likes the program and the coaches and might want to stay home.

If the Owls get one of the two, that's a win. And having Valentin and Bryant in the same class would give Temple two cornerstone offensive linemen.

Season Ticket Sales

I've seen some pretty wild speculation (mostly on the "other" board) regarding season ticket sales this season that, if true, could mean a legit home advantage vs. Penn State as well as some really nice crowds for the AAC games.

Personally, my ticket rep didn't give me much when I asked how sales were going. Of course there is going to be a nice uptick with PSU and ND on the slate; but not sure whether we've seen the massive increase that TU Athletics was hoping for...

Anyone here have any solid info they can share on how ticket sales are going?

Khalif Wyatt

Former Temple guard Khalif Wyatt has had a heck of a run in Israel. His Hapoel Eilat team, down 0-2 in the BSL semifinals, won three straight and knocked off Maccabi Tel Aviv to reach the championship. In the process, Wyatt and Hapoel Eilat denied Macabi Tel Aviv from reaching the finals for the first time since 1993.

Wyatt, per David Pick, has been named Israel Guard of the Year.

On an interesting note, the championship is a two-game aggregate final, which means things are based on the point differential. So you could win the first game by six and lose the second game by five and still be the champion.

MARCUS MILLER

If you go to OWLSCOOP and go to the football recruiting database, this 6-2, 240-pound DE-DT from Hialeah High School in Hialeah, Fla., is at the very top, above the QBs, and if you click on his name, it says he has one offer, Temple, and it looks as if it's a done deal.

Can anyone give me any further info on the kid. His HUDL video is awesome. Is he a commit? He isn't listed as one, but there seems to be only team the kid wants to play for, and it's the Owls.

Dunphy interview on WIP

Coach was on with Paul Jolovitz who somehow managed to get through a 10-minute interview without asking about Temple basketball. Did ask about the 30-second shot clock and expansion of the arc but wasted the time asking about Ken Giles, Evan Mathis and the NBA finals as well as the NBA draft. Jolovitz is a waste of an Ivy League degree.
