Question about a call in Eagles game

This is question I had from last night watching the Eagles game . I went to NFL rules and couldn’t find the answer .

We all know they try to protect the QB and have given them the “ slide “ to stop contact . The ball is dead where the ball is when any part of the body hits the ground . I understand that .

Last night , for a two point conversion , Wentz went “ head first “ toward the goal line and the ball was not touching the line when his knee hit . However he had not been contacted yet by the defense . By the time that happened , wentz had slid far enough forward that the ball now was over the line .

They called it two points but then took it away with review saying I think “ he was automatically down when his knee hit “ that is totally contrary to runners that without contact can crawl or move forward .

I say this because that two points would have made it a two point game versus a four point game and Eagles are kicking a field goal to win the game on 4th down.

Anyone ? Did I miss something ?

Ifeanyi Maijeh

Since Al Golden took over the program, which is basically all that counts (I graduated before Al Golden showed up so don't attack me Peter Liacouras people... it just is what it is)... here are the players that have had at least 11.0 TFL in a season. At least as far as I can see?

Through only 2 games, Sophomore Ifeanyi Maijeh already has 5.0 TFL. He is on pace for 30.0 TFL. He would have the most TFL in a single season in Temple history. The most as an underclassman in a single season. He is on pace to have the most TFL as an interior defensive lineman in a single season. And I'd argue he's on pace to be Temple's next 1st round NFL draft choice so long as no one else steals his thunder before then.

And after his performance against Maryland, I'd argue he might legitimately be capable of accomplishing 20.0+ TFL in a season considering the talent level of other teams we'll be going up against (Buffalo, Tulane, East Carolina, etc). And with the production from Quincy Roche on the edge and Shaun Bradley in the middle, that should keep blocking schemes honest... it's going to take more than a back or a tight end chip to keep these guys away from ballcarriers.

Only 11 individual players have had 11.0 TFL or more in a season since 2006. Every single one played in the NFL. So even just being in that group is special.

Haason Reddick 22.5 in 2016
Tyler Matakevich 15.5 in 2015
Adrian Robinson 14.0 in 2009
Tahir Whitehead 13.5 in 2011
Adrian Robinson 13.5 in 2011
Mo Wilkerson 13.0 in 2010
Haason Reddick 13.0 in 2015
Michael Dogbe 12.5 in 2018
Quincy Roche 11.5 in 2017
Jacob Martin 11.5 in 2017
Matt Ioannidis 11.5 in 2015
Tyler Matakevich 11.5 in 2013
Junior Galette 11.5 in 2007
Jullian Taylor 11.0 in 2017
Matt Ioannidis 11.0 in 2014

Temple Maryland ... the good , the bad and the ugly

Not a question the defense was the star of the game . The defensive line played great , linebackers were unbelievable and d’backs really locked down on the Terrapin receivers .

The offense although not under the term “ bad “ were very inconsistent and really out of sync . They did however make enough plays to win but from the QB to the receivers need to get better . A win is a win .

The special teams were atrocious . They kicked the ball out of bounds , offsides on a kickoff , punted terrible , missed an easy field goal , let up a 55 punt return and there and hiked the ball over the punters head . If that is any indication of those units then they will cost us a game or two before the end of the season

OMG: special teams

Our special teams were dreadful and almost cost us the game. A safety on a bad snap, a 7 yard punt, allowing a punt to ricochet off a blocker, almost allowing a TD on a punt return when at least three Owls seemingly had him tackled, missed a very makeable field goal, and no punt return yards for Wright.
Thank goodness our defense came to play today, aiding by some dreadful play calling by the Terps.
