Receivers

Watching the game yesterday it was obvious that SMU's receivers were very skilled. They were faster, ran better routes, adjusted to errant throws, were faster and ,of course, caught everything thrown their way. Often, it seems that our receivers don't create much separation and dont cut off their routes when the QB is in trouble. Don't know if this is coaching or a talent disparity.

We really do miss R. Jones, and I am happy to see that our current commitment list includes 5 WR's and several other designated "ATH" that could become WR's. Today's game requires it and it appears our coaches recognize it as well.

Russo and Barry

I thought they both played their best games of the year. Russo should have had at least 300ish yards and at least 3 TDs if not for the crazy amount of near perfect thrown ball drops by the receivers. He was on fire today showing why we were exciting about him in the first place. (Thought putting Centeio in during the 2nd half was dumb.) Barry also had a good game as well, much improved.

Everything else about our Owls was pretty tough to watch so I don’t think we win even if we caught a few more but Russo and Barry definitely gave us a shot with their play. (Realistically SMU actually left about 4 scores on the field).

I think that Memphis win is gonna hold up. They looked crazy good today.

A reality check

We are all fans and want the best for our team. BUT. Let's be real. Except for the Bucknell game, against a lower division opponent, we've been lucky to win. We have a team that lacks overall speed; we make mistakes galore; we can't tackle we have a QB with a very strong arm --too strong an arm who can't seem to be able to throw a short ball that actually can be caught and won't be dropped; a long ball that needs some air under it that he frequently throws too hard; and our defensive backs seem a bit slow and late. Did I mention mistakes? I'm hoping for the best, but I think we will be lucky to go 3-3 the rest of the way. That would still be a decent year, but I see a lot of flaws in this team that has been masked by some luck, IMHO. OK. Let the vitriol begin.

The Scoop: Mailbag questions for J.P. Moorman

J.P. Moorman, one of Temple's three captains, will be our guest on The Scoop this week.

If you have a mailbag question for him, post it here and I'll try to ask about two or three as I usually do. We're recording the interview at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow.

And if you have a question about the team in general or anything else, you can post that here, too. We'll record the rest of the podcast around 5 p.m.

Thanks as always for listening!
