Mailbag questions for the Aug. 16 episode of The Scoop

Good morning, everyone!

We're taking mailbag questions for this week's podcast until 3 p.m. today. If you have one, drop it in here and we'll talk about it on The Scoop.

We'll obviously have a lot of preseason camp football to discuss. Is Stan Drayton any closer to making a starting quarterback and single-digit decisions? Do the Owls have the best placekicker on their roster since Brandon McManus?

We'll get to that and anything else you'd like to put on the agenda! Please subscribe, rate and review on Apple Podcasts if you haven't already and thank you as always for listening!

GETTING TO KNOW JAMAL MASBURN JR.

Wow, John! Just listened to your full length interview with Jamal Mashburn Jr.. There was a level of maturity and focus in that young man that I have not heard from a Temple player in a very long time and that bodes well for this team and the coaching staff. It's a lot more than 'he got game'! His overall outlook on balancing basketball and life especially how you and he talked about his Dad in the conversation- the man, the Dad, the leader- and his faith speaks volumes way beyond basketball. And your questions were so on point that there was a mutual dialog and such great comfort and respect, it was a joy to listen to as the comments that flowed with such natural ease. John, this interview was most certainly one of my top 10 Owlscoop interviews you've done since I've been on this board. Thank you and GO OWLS MAN!

Good Job Temple

I know we love calling out Temple when they do things poorly (which happens a lot more than we’d hope) and rightfully so. But I wanted to say the season ticket holder event today was a job well done. Getting to see the practice, the food and drinks, guys like Dave Gerson, Ed Stoner, Katie Colbridge talking to people, Arthur Johnson showed up. Nice talking to other fans, Andy Carl was there chatting with everyone. This kid “icyvert” who has kind of gone viral on twitter playing as Temple in the new college video game was invited by the Tuff Fund and he showed up talking to people. The players looked like they were having fun but trying hard. Yes some work needed to be done and I still couldn’t tell you who our starting QB will be. Brock had a nice pass for a Td. Douglas had a nice scramble out of the pocket for a good run. I’d say the defense looks a little faster as of now. But overall the team looked bigger, stronger and deeper than last year. And people keep saying it looks like they’re having more fun as a team. After practice a bunch of them were dancing, having fun, getting pics with icyvert, signing autographs and even throwing passes with some kids. So the event was great and i great job to football and athletics for putting it together. Would definitely like them to do it again this way next year.

Three key questions heading into preseason camp

With questions at nearly every position on the field, OwlScoop.com will tackle three of them as camp kicks off this week, starting with the offensive line.

Stay tuned for more on the quarterback position and the defense on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Stan Drayton is set to talk to reporters tomorrow on Zoom, and we're slated to get Danny Langsdorf, Everett Withers and Adam Scheirer on Thursday.

NJ and PA Football recruiting

It is still early but it looks like Temple will not be landing a top 40 recruit from PA or NJ. TU best teams and the teams that brought the program back from brink had a good number of NJ players. Recruiting of high school kids at Temple seems very slow. Does anyone have any insight if this is the plan to save room for more transfer portal players or are we just not landing kids or getting put bid with NIL?

Couple this with the sports books and media picking TU to be last in the conference and its hard to get excited.

This team while unproven looks better in terms of depth with the exception of LB and QB IMO. Granted those are two areas that are crucial for success.

Winning cures all things. This team have any shot of getting to .500?
