Noah Ellison

Timber Creek High School wide receiver Noah Ellison is set to announce his decision tomorrow and said his three finalists are Temple, Iowa and Old Dominion.

I've talked to a few sources in South Jersey who are familiar with the situation, and all of them told me the same thing, so I feel comfortable posting this.

Temple floated an initial soft offer out to Ellison early in his recruitment, but some other schools (including Temple) haven't recruited him as hard lately. He's very likely going to pick Iowa tomorrow.

Former Owl Leyon Azubuike featured on Los Angeles morning news

I caught this on this morning's newscast on the ABC Los Angeles station while I was getting dressed.

There was something in the graphic that had me puzzled, however. It identified Leyon as having been WBC heavyweight champion. I recall reading that he had dabbled in boxing after TU, but wasn't aware that he had actually captured any belts, much less THAT one.

Brunson vs Big George

Watching the game right now on ESPNU. Brunson is impressive. He will 100% start at Nova next year, I don't care who they have returning... Even if it takes him a few games to crack the starting lineup, it's going to happen because he's that good. He leads all scorers with 23 points. In the 3rd quarter now and Papagiannis honestly isn't even the best Greek on the court right now. If he decides to play college ball he's a 1 and done based on size and potential alone, NOT for current skill set. He's had some nice dunks but nothing about his current game screams dominant in college/NBA. Ohhh what could have been...

Terry Rozier/Will Cummings

Sometimes the NBA draft makes you scratch your head. The Celtics used their first pick in the draft, No. 16, to select Terry Rozier from Louisville. Rosier is a 6-2 guard who is a very good defender, can finish around the rim and is streaky from the perimeter. He has a reputation as a fierce competitor. I look at Rozier and I see Will Cummings. Anyone else see the comparison?

Matt Rhule interview

We spent more than an hour with Matt Rhule today. He covered just about everything from the current roster to recruiting to Robby Anderson.

Just a few quick excerpts before I head out:

- When Rhule was asked if Temple missed Anderson last season, he smiled, shrugged and said, "Yeah, we missed him."

- If the season were to start tomorrow, Rhule said, Austin Jones would be the kicker and Alex Starzyk would be the punter, although the competition there will continue.

- Delvon Randall is with the team, but he's working out at safety.

- Nate D. Smith will be in more of an outside linebacker/rush end role heading into the season, which I'm assuming clears the way for Jarred Alwan to be the middle linebacker.

- Rhule said Anderson would most likely have one year of eligibility left.

- Logan Marchi is the No. 2 quarterback heading into preseason camp.

- Lenny Williams has officially transferred, as has Shamir Bearfield.

We wanted to get the whole interview up there for you all to listen to right away, and we'll break out more excerpts and information in the coming days.

Naseir Upshur, Johncarlo Valentin

I talked yesterday to someone who's very familiar with the recruitment of Naseir Upshur and Johncarlo Valentin, Imhotep's blue-chip 4-star recruits.

The source said that while Temple is still in the mix with Upshur, Michigan and Miami will be tough to beat at this point, especially Michigan.

As for Valentin, the source said Temple has a great shot because Valentin really likes the program and the coaches and might want to stay home.

If the Owls get one of the two, that's a win. And having Valentin and Bryant in the same class would give Temple two cornerstone offensive linemen.
