As we reported last night, Temple tight ends coach/special teams coordinator Ed Foley was at Lincoln (N.J.) High School in North Jersey on Monday to see 2016 wide receiver and former Iowa commit Frank Darby. A 6-foot-1, 190-pounder from Jersey City, Darby had been committed to Iowa for a long period of time, but never signed a Letter of Intent due to academic issues. Darby now has his academics in order and is looking for a new home for the upcoming season.
I've been told that it's unlikely that Temple will take on Darby as a member of the 2016 class for multiple reasons, including the fact that they signed a full 25-man class in February. The Owls, who already have plenty of depth at the wide receiver position, still have not extended an offer to Darby.
Foley, who was the lead recruiter on 2016 signee and Lincoln High product Kareem Gaulden, informed Darby during the brief visit to the school that Temple would like the North Jersey wideout to camp at 10th and Diamond if he chooses to reclassify to 2017 and attend prep school, per a source.
Todderick Hunt of NJ.com reported on Monday that Darby will take an official visit to Rutgers this weekend. Darby has an offer on the table from Iowa to join the Hawkeyes as a member of the 2017 class following a year of prep school. He's also receiving interest from the likes of Arizona State, Toledo, UConn, Kansas and Boston College.
