Matt Rhule on 97.5 This Morning

Coach Rhule spent the morning with the 97.5 morning show and they talked a lot about temple football.

One caller asked about non-conference scheduling and he mentioned Maryland, Rutgers and Duke coming to philly. He also mentioned a major national program is probably coming to philly as well and the team does not care if the game is at the linc or on campus. However, he could not name the team as the agreement is not signed but he thought we would hear something in the coming weeks.

May 29th camp

As the Temple football staff has advertised thoroughly via Twitter, TU will holds its first summer camp session on May 29th.

I'll update this thread with some more names to watch as the week goes on, but I wanted to pass one thing along for now -- 2017 Farmington (Michigan) DB Joshua Turner will trip to Temple for the Memorial Day Weekend camp. The Owls have shown enough interest in Turner to get him to come to campus on his own dime, which leads me to believe that an offer could be in works with a strong performance.

Here's the link to Turner's highlight tape: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/5426598/joshua-turner

Gary Brightwell

I am a co-worker of Damon Daniels, of Damon Daniel Elite training. His organization has worked with many kids from Delaware and they have received scholarships to Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Clemson, and other P5 schools. This kid, Gary Brightwell, works with Damon Daniels, and has attended our camps. He is receiving interest from some great schools. He is a beast...Check out his videos... I hope we offer him soon!!!!

Edwin Lopez

2017 Woodrow Wilson (NJ) DB Edwin Lopez took to Twitter on Thursday night and announced a top four of Boston College, Rutgers, Tulane and Temple. He also set a decision date for June 1st.

Some background on Lopez -- he plays wide receiver and defensive back at Wilson, but virtually all schools (including Temple) see him as a DB at the college level. Francis Brown is the lead recruiter on Lopez, while fellow Wilson graduate and TU defensive line coach Elijah Robinson has also been involved. His head coach at Wilson, Preston Brown, played at Tulane and took Lopez out to visit the other TU earlier this spring. Shortly after the new Rutgers staff came in place, the Scarlet Knights have made a really strong push for Lopez.

He was dismissed from Alabama for violating team rules. He played at Windsor High, where Terrance Knighton played.

Video coordinator search

We mentioned back on April 15 that Chris Clark is leaving his video coordinator position at Temple to join Drexel's staff as an assistant coach.

As for his replacement, the two names I've heard from several sources are Luis Guzman, a current graduate manager and former Owls point guard; and Bobby Jordan, a former Drexel assistant who was not retained by new Dragons coach Zach Spiker.

Jordan is an intriguing candidate. He played at Roman Catholic in high school, then at Drexel and remained on with the Dragons as an operations assistant. He got bumped up to a bench spot when Ashley Howard left for Xavier.

In the video coordinator spot, you can't leave campus to recruit, but you can talk to recruits when they're in the building, and Jordan could be an asset and fresh perspective there because he has recruiting ties to Philadelphia and the East Coast.

Guzman very much wants to pursue a career in college coaching as well. He's in grad school at Temple and has ties to the Playaz Basketball AAU team. He'll be entering his second year as founder and tournament coordinator of the Washington Heights Invitational tournament in the Bronx.

Stadium Details

I have heard the planning is ongoing and architectural, environmental, traffic impact reports are nearly completed. The biggest physical challenge is closing 15th street. The stadium capacity is constrained by the parcel size. There may be five residential units impacted. I did not know it, but the state is providing some funding, but is a a fraction of what the pro sports teams received a decade ago.
