Dion Dawkins comes back to give back

I talked to Dion Dawkins this morning at his Dion's Dreamers food pantry event at Temple's Diamond Street lot.

We'll have the full interview in our podcast this week. Here's the story that's on the front page of the site now.

Justin Holmes catches Temple's attention

Temple is looking to take one quarterback in its 2022 recruiting class, Northwestern Lehigh High School standout Justin Holmes told me, and he's one of the players on their board.

Dan Skillings is looking ahead to an important summer

@Sam Cohn talked to Roman Catholic High School guard Dan Skillings, who has a Temple offer, ahead of this weekend's Philly Live I at St. Joe's Prep.

If you aren't already, follow Sam on Twitter @samdcohn. He'll have our Philly Live I coverage this weekend.

Previewing Philly Live I

Temple's staff will have its eye on several teams and players at this weekend's Philly Live I, which tips off Friday at St. Joe's Prep. Unlike an AAU tournament, Philly Live gives recruits the chance to showcase their skills with their high school teammates. The Owls have offers out to several players who will be there this weekend, and @Sam Cohn has you covered with our preview.

He'll be there throughout the weekend with coverage as well.

Big East

Nice to see zero Big East teams in 16. A little humble pie will do them good. If Houston can move on we will close the gap a little. If UCF had pulled it off it would have given a huge boost to conference. Recruits need to feel the AAC is comparable to BE. Media still has a sweet spot for them that gives them the upper hand. In all fairness they have accomplished more. Still think it will be a struggle as bottom part of oversized AAC is a NET drain they don’t have.

Breaking: Craig Harmon resigns from Temple

In an unexpected turn of events, Temple quarterbacks coach Craig Harmon has resigned from his role within the program, OwlScoop.com has learned via multiple sources familiar with the situation. Harmon's departure comes in the middle of Temple's spring ball and leaves Temple coach Rod Carey with a vacancy at a crucial coaching spot.

Harmon came with Carey to Temple from Northern Illinois following the 2018 season after three years as the Huskies' quarterbacks coach and two seasons as the MAC program's tight ends coach. Harmon himself was a quarterback for NIU from 1998-2000 before transferring to Quincy University to finish his career.

During the 2020 season, Harmon's quarterbacks room experienced almost unprecedented fluidity as four different quarterbacks started for the Owls in just seven games. As a unit, the Owls passed for 1,466 yards, 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In 2019, Anthony Russo threw for 2,861 yards 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions under Harmon's tutelage.

Harmon's departure leaves Temple with an open on-field coaching spot. In the event that Carey decides to keep the job internal, offensive analyst Jake Landry, who coached the running backs at NIU in 2018, could be a likely candidate. Landry also has two season of offensive coordinator experience from his time at Division III Wisconsin-La Crosse and played quarterback at North Dakota from 2007-10. Carey was North Dakota's offensive line coach during the last three seasons of Landry's time there.

As always, stayed tuned with OwlScoop.com for more coverage.

St. Joe's Prep DT Richard James Jr. talks to OwlScoop.com about his recruitment

@Dante Collinelli makes his OwlScoop debut with a recruiting story on St. Joe's Prep class of 2024 defensive tackle Richard James Jr. James is set to camp with Temple June 11.

Legacy Recruits

Was just about to post this but John just replied on the other thread. Thought I’d start a new thread though. The only one I’d add as a potential target is a semi-legacy recruit, Justin Moore, son of Malik Moore. Justin picked up two offers last fall without playing a 16U AAU season (https://verbalcommits.com/players/justin-moore-pa)

OT: Dr. John Daly

In the past 15 months, Temple has lost a lot of vital. Over a month ago, we lost another in Dr. John Daly. A Temple grad, (who was a student on my (ex) father in-law's pharmacology class at the med school) and two time dean of the Lewis Katz School of medicine, Dr. Daly literally saved the med school when its accreditation was threatened. The accreditation scare tuned out to the best thing that could happen as Dre. Daly was able to institute the changes necessary for its survival. A double organ transplant survivor, Dr. Daly was cherry and white to the core. How loss continues the growing void that will be hard to replace on North Broad, Below is a virtual memorial.

That is all.

Thank You. Hope you all are well

In case you missed it out on the front page, @Dante Collinelli caught up with class of 2022 running back Eden James, the son of Colts Hall of Famer Edgerrin James.

James has a Temple offer and it sounds like he could take an official visit in the future.
