TOLEDO TOUGH!!

The Toledo Rockets, provided their heads are screwed on properly with the
coaching changes, will afford a formidable opponent for the Owls next week.
They have several good sized running backs behind an unbelievably tall, large
offensive line. Their quarterback play is adequate for a running attack. They
also have 10 seniors listed in the starting 22. I've seen them play several
times this year...they are tough! Many consecutive winning seasons!

Several years ago, pre Matt Ruhle the detractors of Coach Golden were quick to
address the fact that under him the Owls never beat a MAC team with a winning
record, I'm guessing that since we are not in the MAC anymore that it still is
factual situation. Now is the time to change that statistic.

The FAU stadium is a good comparison to any school looking to build a
"smaller" facility. East to access, lots of parking. Capacity 30K, engineered
by keen fund raising by Athletic Director, then Coach Howard Schnellenberger.
It was completed in 2011 at the cost of 70 million, the playing field named after
Coach Schnellenberger. Current attending figures are about 50% of capacity.

Hope everyone enjoys Florida!

GO OWLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!EXPLODE THE ROCKETS

incredibly bad coaching at end of the game

The ball goes off Josh Browns leg with 36 seconds to go and St. Joe's up by one . They have a full 30 second shot clock and there is a timeout by the refs to make sure it went off of Brown . I say this because the coach has two minutes to come up with his strategy .

His strategy : let them dribble away the entire 30 seconds , throw up a shot that now reduces the 6 second difference and wish and hope in 4 to 4 1/2 seconds someone could advance and hit a shot .

Are you kidding me ? that type of strategy had about a 5 % chance of working

Here is my strategy : pressure the ball and go for a steal for the first fifteen seconds of clock . I mean go all out to steal the ball and if you foul then so be it . When there is 15 seconds on the shot clock then foul the worst foul shooter on the floor . Temple had 9 fouls so it was going to be a two shot foul .

If he makes one you have 20 seconds to tie score with a two or win with a three .
If he make both you can still tie with a three .
You have a 30- 40% chance in this scenario

Our coach picks the 5 percenter !!!!

TICKETS TO BASKETBALL - BEST IN THE HOUSE

i have four tickets in section 113 , row E seats , 7 , 8 , 9 and 10 for games . Directly at center court and third row back . Looking right at both benches .

I have four tickets for both the Delaware State game Saturday , Dec 19 at 4 pm and Houston Saturday January 2 at 12 noon .

I also have a parking pass for each game in the parking garage behind the center .

$ 100.00 per game will get you four tickets and a parking pass .
If you buy both games then total will be $ 190.00

John

I see he is back on the commitment list after spending this season at prep school, also up to 3 stars. They have him listed as a RB but last year was recruited as a LB, nice size would love for him to be able to play on the defensive side since we need depth there. Have you heard anything about this

Where are the Dunphy Defenders...

Silent. Of course. Worst current Big 5 coach= Fran Dunphy (I'm including Donahue). Worst Big 5 recruiter= Fran Dunphy. Out of the 5 city coaches, who has never been to the sweet 16? THAT'S RIGHT, he's our loveable loser, Fran. Would trade Dunphy for any coach in the big 5 this second. Frankly, he's losing the good guy image, because he doesn't do what's right and step down ASAP. Coming off as greedy and stubborn.

Peter King on pending free agent Wilkerson

What will the Jets do with Muhammad Wilkerson? The Jets’ hugely talented 3-4 defensive end, Muhammad Wilkerson, just had a Watt-like game against the Titans and mobile quarterback Marcus Mariota: three sacks (for a loss of 27 yards), two tackles for loss, a pass defensed and a forced fumble. He’s the kind of player who can play wide in a 3-4 defense, or inside in a 4-3, and he can play the pass and the run with equal efficiency. Question is, will the Jets find some common ground with Wilkerson, their best defensive player, so he can be a Joe Klecko-type all-time Jet. I talked to Wilkerson on Sunday night, and make no mistake: He wants to stay in New Jersey, where he is from. But he has used this season of not being signed as a spur to play at his peak. “I don’t think about it very much, because I am focused on doing everything I can to help this team win,” Wilkerson said. “But I just use it as motivation. I understand it’s just business, and I’m not going to be a distraction for my team.” Wilkerson said his goal this year was to be more consistent under new coach Todd Bowles, and there’s little question he has been. On a defense with Darrelle Revis and David Harris, he’s clearly become the most valuable defender—and if he gets to the open market, which is unlikely, he’ll be the most valuable free-agent in 2016.

Linc

I know that I might get jumped on for starting this thread, but in the event that we don't move forward with our OCS, what should our plan be if we have to stay at the Linc. Obviously we would have to extract major concessions from the Eagles. Free rent, more favorable parking allowances, and consistent field signage would be obvious starting points, but how about scheduling? I'd think that we'd need to raise the level of opponents and not bring in any "weak sisters" other than Army, Villanova, or possibly Delaware. An annual offering of a Big 10,SEC, ACC, and prestigious program like BYU, Air Force, SD State or Penn State or Notre Dame in order to raise the level of interest to our casual/"bandwagon" fan.

Soul search!

The question is simple, and the answer is easy.

Would our conference brethren like Cincinatti, UCONN, and Memphis allow this type of 3 year slide? Answer: No way in hell!

Those are three programs with expectations of trying to get to the Final Four. Or have things gotten so bad we now consider ourselves aligned with Tulane?

Dunphy the expectations manager has only ever had a goal of making the tournament, and now we can't even do that!

If we're not committed to being a full spectrum athletics department, we should get out of this conference and pack it in. This is a joke!

These finance gurus running our university to find a way to fix this in a hurry.

Be the change.

Here are the pertinent email addresses if you'd like to do the same...

patrick.kraft@temple.edu, Dr. Pat Kraft, AD
keviclar@temple.edu, Kevin Clark, Exev VP and COO
cangelos@temple.edu, Craig Aneglos, Deputy AD

I am planning to write a very respectful, measured, and thoughtful note. I hope anyone who has interest in salvaging this thing will do the same. Happy writing!

Btw, there has been an expression via Facebook that the admin wants a new basketball arena? I really hope there isn't a lick of truth to that because it is just beyond stupid, as we can't even fill the place we have (though we suck right now, so it's not a shock). We shouldn't throw another dime at this program until we pay for a coach that can recruit and win. Our facilities are beautiful already IMO.

What gives? Are we recruiting him? A legacy player out of Cherry Hill East and is now a legit 6-10? You can't teach that! His father told me he grew 1 1/2 inches over the summer! Word also has it that his game is really starting to come around! Don't we have schollies available?

I don't understand! Somebody explain it to me! He has the bloodlines! "]["U bloodlines!!

Dunphy's coaching now = his recruitng

Dunphy alone lost the game against Saint Joseph's. The following mistakes were atrocious: .

a) He left Coleman in the game despite not only struggling offensively and taking awful shots, but also getting beat off the dribble consistently (final box score for him, 0 for 7 from the field and 0 for 4 from 3 )

b) Lets the young stud Lowe rot on the bench while Coleman stinks it up and the team struggles offensively.

c) Once again, brings Mark Williams in the game and destroys the team's momentum.

d) REFUSES to go to zone during most of the game even though his players are constantly being beat off the dribble (mostly notably Coleman who again, he refused to take out the game despite poor play -- even the commentators kept urging Temple to go zone!)

e) Finally goes to zone, it's effective, but then goes back to man to man once the team gets back in the game; the team then goes back to getting beat off the dribble and struggling defensively (the man is drunk on his stubbornness)

f) Lets SJU dribble the clock down in OT without ordering his players to pressure in an attempt to get a turnover (the commentators thought Temple should have just fouled on SJU's final possession to extend the game - that seemed like a good idea compared to Dunphy's idiotic idea of just being content with Temple -- at best -- just getting a defensive stop and getting the ball with 5 seconds left and having to take and miss a wild shot like OBI eventually did, losing the game)

The game against SJU was so winnable and much needed, and Dunphy lost it with horrible coaching and negligence. I feel bad for these kids. They have a coach that's clearly already enjoying his twilight years and he's running the program into the ground. I have never had this much contempt for a coach being the head of a team I support. Never. At this point, the team may need to crash and burn like 2013/2014 to drive this guy into early retirement. His presence is toxic towards the prestige of this basketball program (what's left of it).
