Walter Stewart

Things are always fluid, of course, but provided nothing changes, one of the hallmarks of this offseason might be that Rod Carey was able to hold on to his defensive line coach, Walter Stewart.

Stewart, a former team captain and defensive lineman under Butch Jones at Cincinnati, was courted by his alma mater. According to several sources with knowledge of the situation, Stewart was offered the Bearcats' defensive line coach job after a big push from Luke Fickell but turned it down. Stewart, according to two other sources, also interviewed for Penn State's defensive line coaching spot before James Franklin hired John Scott Jr.

With Stewart on Carey's staff as his defensive line coach in 2018, Northern Illinois finished second nationally to Clemson with 50 sacks. He also worked with All-American Sutton Smith, the MAC's player of the year and defensive player of the year. And of course this past season, he coached AAC Defensive Player of the Year Quincy Roche and helped oversee career-best seasons from Ifeanyi Maijeh, Dana Levine and even DeAndre Kelly, who had fallen out of favor with Geoff Collins' staff.

Coaches see college football as a business

Thought this is an almost profound opinion piece regarding college football coaching today:

Now, most of us have had at least some of these thoughts, but the piece uses a new language to describe the game with a different context and perspective.

One can superimpose this "paradigm" over some of Temple's recent and even beloved coaches.

Temple to host impressive list of visitors for Villanova game

In anticipation of tomorrow's sellout game between Temple and Villanova, OwlScoop.com did some digging to find out which prospects will be in attendance. Here are the names that we've been able to confirm, so far, are expected to be in attendance at the Liacouras Center.

Login to view embedded media Warley is the No. 1 local recruit in the 2021 class and is the No. 28 overall prospect in the class. The 6-foot-5 Warley has offers from schools like Oregon, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Califonia.

Login to view embedded media The 4-star Mitchell might arguably be Temple's biggest target in the 2021 class. Mitchell, who is the No. 103 prospect in the 2021 class, has offers from Virginia Tech, Penn State, Temple and VCU. Mitchell's mom played at Temple and he took an official visit to Philadelphia back in October.

Login to view embedded media While Mitchell and Warley project as point guards, Reynolds will likely play off the ball more at the Division 1 level. He's averaging 16 points per game for Bullis this season and has early offers from schools like VCU, Temple, St. Joe's, ECU and Richmond.

Login to view embedded media The 6-foot-9 Ayomide, originally from Texas, is playing at The Phelps School this year and recently picked up an offer from Texas A&M.

Login to view embedded media 3-star Camden Catholic forward Zach HIcks took an official visit to Temple in October and followed that up with an official visit to Richmond in November. The 6-foot-7 Hick is averaging close to 20 points per game this season for the Irish and has recently seen interest from Rutgers and Michigan.

Login to view embedded media Wooga Poplar has seen his recruitment blow up recently and might be the most intriguing local prospect in the 2021 class. The Math, Civics and Sciences product was recently offered by Auburn and Virginia Tech. Poplar has only been playing organized basketball for a couple years but is averaging close to 20 points and 5 rebounds per game this season for MCS.

Where Temple FB plays in 2020...

They have a deal in place to play in the Linc for the next 5 years.

They are charging us $2.5 million or so a year to play there, an increase of 150% over the previous annual deal. The Eagles are basically saying get a stadium done because the rent goes up exponentially every year after 5 years.

Speaking of the stadium, there is still a plan in place to get it built on campus once the Klein and Law schools get built.

A closer look at our players

Alani not a Point guard but in a point guard body

NPL - can’t shoot beyond three feet , should be a point guard but isn’t

Rose - very inconsistent and can’t shoot the three

JPM - doesn’t do anything well and looks lost

Forrester - not there yet . Doesn’t rebound well

JPL - not a great shooter , has possibilities as a point guard down the road

Perry - shoots when open , not much else

Hamilton - not a 4 or 5

Parks - no offense , shouldn’t play

D Moore - definitely shouldn’t play

M Scott - drifts , inconsistent , deep deep bench player at this level

wanna know why we are 500 ?

Linwood Crump

So, I noticed that Linwood Crump was on the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl roster (along with Isaiah, Karamo, and Chappelle). I didn't actually see him in the game, but he certainly could have played and the announcers didn't mention him.
I also see he's still on the roster per the owlsports site.
I know that the NFLPACB is open to "draft eligible" players. Can a guy play in the game and still return as a Graduate player?

Keys for Owls to be in the game late against Cats

On paper , this is a mismatch but that is why they play the games and stranger things have happened . This is not an unbeatable Villanova club .

1. Temple must play better defense than they have lately . We can be in game in 50s and 60s .

2. Villanova rebounds well and especially on the offensive boards . We have to seal and rebound well

3. Alani will have his hands full with Donnelly . Donnelly has a very good mid range game and we need to keep him out of the paint . He gets into the core of the defense and can score and pass .

4. Shooting has to be at last 38 percent and threes at 35 percent to even be in the game .

I don’t see us winning but I do see a very competitive game .
