Maybe Cincinnati Is Just That Good

Let's start by saying, I hate bye weeks. Temple is off and my NFL team is off this weekend.

Cincinnati is up big on UCF right now 28-0, check that 34- 0 (pending extra point) with just under 3 minutes left in the half.

That amounts to a 70- 0 shutout of a fairly decent (usually) UCF team. Gus Malzhan (that can't be spelled right) is overrated as a coach btw.

I'm actually torn, I want CIncy to crash and burn this season and every season until they leave for the B12 as well as Houston and UCF, but at the same time I do want them to make the CFP as representatives of the AAC.

Injury Updates

Just got off the weekly Rod Carey media availability, figured I'd pass along the injury updates we received.

Amir Tyler - Had surgery over the weekend on an "upper body injury." (Note: Tyler posted on his Instagram that it was a hand injury.) Will miss a couple of weeks but should return before the season ends.
Randle Jones - Fully practicing, should play vs. USF.
Yvandy Rigby - Practiced, should be OK to play vs. USF.
Michael Niese - Working his way back, up in the air for Saturday.
David Martin Robinson - Still a few weeks out.
DaeSean Winston - Still out.

Temple adds 3-star LB

Corey Yeoman, who is originally from South Jersey but is doing a prep year in Florida, has committed to Temple.

Yeoman recently caught the eye of Sports Illustrated.

JDC/Kyle

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever talked to someone at Rivals about revamping their team recruiting ranking algorithm? It makes absolutely zero sense.

Texas Tech has 9 commits--7 3*, 1 4*
Houston has 8 commits--7 3*
NIU has 15 commits--1 3*

There is no reason NIU should be ranked ahead of Houston, and Texas Tech should be over 100 points ahead of NIU.

Why Rivals' system rewards service academies for filling their classes with 40+ 0-2* recruits, I have no idea.

Extra Content with Javon Edmonds

This week Javon Edmonds, contributor at owlscoop and current temple student was featured on the owl be back podcast. Javon did an awesome job on this so I felt like it should be shared here. Another great young person on the owlscoop staff. Some good stuff about the cincy game and the new AD

The Scoop: Season 7, Episode 10 with Temple assistant Jimmy Fenerty

Lots of good stuff here from Temple assistant coach Jimmy Fenerty. He'll tell you about why he thinks Jake Forrester made some significant improvements this offseason, why there's continued optimism about Jahlil White, why we could see more zone out of the Owls this season and much. more.

Listen and Learn Tour is definition of "Inaction"

Disheartening interview with new AD. Surprising and disappointing to learn that he was hired without FIRST articulating a strategic vision and action plan for our sports programs. The past performance and perceptions regarding the state of our athletic department are readily available in the historical record and social media for anyone willing to do the research.
Tell and Teach, not Listen and Learn. ACT.
All those who were hoping for a strong advocate for sports at Temple should sit back and wait for the next hire. The new AD has gone on record that he will do whatever the President tells him to do. Wow.
Past experience tells me that people that "sit around and listen" are usually listening for new job opportunities and are short-term hires ... trying not to rock the boat on their way to their next position.

The Scoop: Mailbag questions for Jimmy Fenerty

We've got a basketball-centric episode of The Scoop coming your way this week with Temple assistant coach Jimmy Fenerty as our guest. If you have mailbag questions for him or general ones or us as a staff, please drop them in here and we'll get to as many as we can.

If you haven't already, please subscribe to The Scoop and drop us a rating and a review if you get the chance. We greatly appreciate it!

Stacking WRs

JHG beat this to death in the game thread… but for anyone watching the eagles game, did you see how they kept praising the panthers play calls with stacking WRs which lead to an easy TD? I’ll try and post the video once it surfaces. Easy quick throws and easily confuse the defense making them guess when to switch or double a WR. Our offensive coordinator is trash.
