In the five days since he was announced as Temple’s new head coach, Stan Drayton has begun the process of putting together his first staff. As part of that process, Drayton has informed the majority of the existing staff that they will not be retained but has also afforded some staff members the opportunity to interview for a spot in the new regime, OwlScoop.com has learned.
Among the position coaches expected to be elsewhere next season are coordinators Mike Uremovich and Jeff Knowles, running backs coach Gabe Infante, defensive line coach Walter Stewart and offensive line coach Joe Tripodi. Cornerbacks coach Melvin Rice already accepted a position at New Mexico State.
Meanwhile, internal interviews are expected to occur this week. Director of Player Development Preston Brown is being considered for an on-field role, as is wide receivers coach Thad Ward. Ward is an interesting situation because, unlike all the other on-field coaches, he actually still has another year remaining on his deal. I don’t think that will factor in too much, one way or the other, but figured it’s worth noting.
Dan Sabock, who has served as a Special Teams analyst for the last three seasons, is also a possibility to stick around in some capacity.
Drayton also met with the support staff today, including 1-on-1 interviews with select individuals. Basically, to summarize, while no hires have been officially made yet, things are definitely progressing as frantically as you’d expect.
