What if we sold the University to Amazon? Amazon just purchased One Medical in California for $4b. One Medical had about $623m in annual revenues so it's like a 6.5 ratio. Temple as an entire system brought in $2.4b in revenue last year. That would put our valuation in the $13b - $20b range. That's pocket change for Amazon. Amazon would get an east coast foot print for their expanding medical services division and a medical school where they could train and recruit their own talent. And a successful business and law school. And the infrastructure to hit the ground running with a worlds best of class computer engineering program. Amazon has 1.6m employees as of the end of 2021. It's a lot cheaper to ask kids to pay you $20k or $35k a year to learn from you and then take your jobs than it is to pay thousands of HR and recruiter personnel 6 figures each to chase after people all over the world. If you go to work for Amazon after you graduate, your tuition is reimbursed.
Does anyone here think that Villanova basketball would compete against us in a world of NIL if we had Amazon's financial backing? Villanova would have to open up an Etsy shop. And think of the multimedia possibilities!
It's only a matter of time before something like this happens. If not us, it'll be someone else. Schools like Alabama and Georgia and Texas and Villanova are bullies. Mediocre fish in a small pond who make and break all the rules on the elementary school playground but don't actually flex any true creative muscle because they don't see the world past the fence around the schoolyard.
Also it's July. What else is there to talk about right now?
