The Scoop: Season 6, Episode 2

The latest episode of The Scoop is up on the site now and available on Apple Podcasts or wherever you access your podcasts. In addition to plenty of football talk, we discussed the impact of the Owls adding Camden Catholic High School forward Zach Hicks.

An editor's note to pass along: In addressing mailbag questions about Brandon Sanders, I said in part that things could still be up in the air with him in terms of whether or not he actually ends up at Temple or that things could even be pushed back a year to 2022. That's not entirely correct.

In continuing to talk later today to two more sources who are familiar with his recruitment, I was told that if Sanders can take care of things academically at Potter's House Christian Academy in Jacksonville after transferring there from South Miami High School, he's very likely to be on campus at this time next year as part of the Temple program.

If things do not work out academically, then the possibility exists that he could enroll at a junior college and then the Owls would have an open scholarship to potentially offer to another high school senior in the 2021 class or a transfer or grad transfer.

As we typically say, it's a fluid situation.

Thank you all for listening to the podcast and have a safe, happy and healthy Labor Day weekend!

John Thompson

I’m sure the senior members of this board remember the days when John T & our John C, and Nolan Richardson were the voice for equality for black payers regarding academic restrictions the NCAA had put in place. They faced lots of backlash, but stood firm for change. Needless to say they had a great friendship. I’m sure our John is hurting with the loss. I had the great opportunity to be one of Temple’s representatives at John C’s Hall of Fame induction. It was John Thompson who did John’s introduction speech. Most everyone in attendance shed a tear at the moving speech. What I also recall is speaking with John T Jr. who drove his dad up from DC. He told me his dads back was so bad he made the trip lying on the back seat and could barely stand. His dad would not hear of staying home and missing the opportunity to honor his pal. Sad loss for the game and all the people he impacted.

Name to watch

Obviously, there's been a ton of interest in JUCO and grad transfers. I also believe there's a strong mutual interest between the staff and:

Highly touted recruit out of high school. Younger brother of former Syracuse player Tyus.

From what I've heard, athletic, "bit of a funky shot", somewhat effective on the perimeter. Saw limited minutes as a freshman behind Kamar Baldwin.
