The Scoop: Mailbag questions

@Kyle Gauss, @Sam Cohn, @Dante Collinelli and I are back again this week with another episode of The Scoop, our OwlScoop.com podcast. You can help drive the conversation with your mailbag questions, so please drop them in here if you have one, whether it's about preseason camp position battles, recruiting or even something off-topic.

Although we're in the thick of covering preseason football camp, we're more than happy to talk hoops, too. Sam just did some great coverage of the Danny Rumph Classic and had the chance to talk to some former Temple players.

Also, here's a friendly reminder to please subscribe to The Scoop on Apple Podcasts or wherever you access your podcasts. Ratings and reviews help us out as well. The more we get, the more visibility the pod - and Temple sports talk - gets on that platform.

Thank you!

Luke Foster Commits to Temple

I just got off the phone with Luke Foster. He'll be playing offensive line for the Owls. He's made appearances at both left and right tackle at Presbertaryian, but Temple believes he has the athleticism to play all over, including the guard position. Foster just recently graduated, but he could have three years of eligibility remaining. I would expect him to come in and compete and push for depth with the possibility of being a starter in 2022. Story on Foster and more to come later. Will share some details on The Scoop today as well.

The Scoop: Podcast questions for Temple professor and NIL expert Thilo Kunkel

Hi, everyone!

The Scoop is back this week, and we'll be talking to Temple School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Professor Thilo Kunkel. He's done a lot of research and published a paper on NIL called There Is No Nil in NIL: Examining the Social Media Value of Student-Athletes' Names, Images, and Likeness, and he's teaching a class about it this fall called Personal Branding of Athletes: Name, Image and Likeness.

We'll talk to him about how NIL could impact Temple, so if you have mailbag questions for him or for us about other topics like football, basketball and recruiting, please drop them in here and we'll get to as many as we can. We'll take questions up until 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Thanks for listening!

Tonight’s Football Event

Let’s talk about it I guess. I don’t think athletics did an awful job. It was the same script as it’s always been and they did that script as well as they’ve always done it. But man was it depressing in there. Where’d all the young people go? Sometimes we’re in such a rush to be more efficient that we lose sight of the comfort all of us take in the tangible. It’s not rational but it doesn’t have to be. I legitimately felt sad when I found out I couldn’t “get my tickets.” Not hyperbole. There’s something special about carrying that package out of there. There’s just no reason to attend. I’ll never go out of my way for one of those again. It’s just like everyday, Temple athletics just fails to win. I feel it in my bones.

Fitting that one of the first 2 faces I recognized when I walked in was Mr Francis Dunphy. And that I left feeling empty. The guy is William H Macy in “The Cooler.”
