Zach Hicks

Maybe, the canary in the coal mine. If you read the comments of Hicks's dad on Twitter citing crime on campus, perhaps some of you will realize the headwinds Aaron and staff faced. Probably not. Temple has bigger problems than who is the basketball coach. None of this happened in a vacuum.

More transfer portal recruiting scoop

Temple could be getting a visit soon from Texas-Rio Grande Valley transfer guard and Australian native Will Johnston. I talked to him this morning.

Temple hosts midweek official visitor

Adam Fisher and his staff will continue their overhaul of the Temple roster this week as St. John's transfer guard Dylan Addae-Wusu is slated to start on an official visit today, OwlScoop.com has learned.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Addae-Wusu averaged 9.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game last season for an 18-15 Johnnies team. Addae-Wusu shot 36.4 percent from three last season after shooting 38.1 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore in 2021-22. Addae-Wusu was particularly effective after entering the starting lineup down the stretch as he averaged 11.4 points and shot 40.5 percent from long distance over the last 19 games of the season, all of which he started. Addae-Wusu's season-high output of 25 points came in a close 96-94 loss to Big East champion Marquette.

Addae-Wusu was originally a 3-star prospect from New York City's Our Saviour Lutheran in the 2019 class. He played AAU ball with NY Lightning, which is coached by former UMass standout Dana Dingle. Dingle's brother, Daniel, of course played for Temple from 2012-17.

Addae-Wusu will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next school.

Mailbag questions for The Scoop

Good evening, everyone.

We're taking mailbag questions for this week's episode of The Scoop until 1:30 p.m. Friday if you have them.

I know things have been basketball-heavy with Adam Fisher's arrival, the new staff and portal and roster coverage, but we're still happy to take football mailbag questions, too.

Thanks so much for your support of the site and the podcast. Our listenership is up nearly 30 percent from a year ago. We greatly appreciate it!

Temple hosts transfer sharpshooter

Per multiple sources, Temple hosted UMBC guard Matteo Picarelli for an official visit this weekend.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Italy product averaged 10.1 points per game last season in just 22.5 minutes per contest. Adam Fisher wants Temple to put more of an emphasis on effective three-point shooting. Picarelli would definitely help in that category, as he shot 39.4 percent from three and led the America East Conference with a true shooting percentage of 62.2 percent. By comparison, Temple's best 3-point shooter, Zach Hicks, shot 35.6 percent from three-point range last year. The Owls as a whole shot 33 percent from three last season and finished No. 238 in the nation in that category.

Picarelli, who has previously played with the Italy U18 and U16 national teams, had 19 against Georgetown and 24 against Albany last season. Picarelli will have two years of eligibility left at his next school.

More football talk and a recap of the Cherry and White game on this week's Scoop

This week's pod includes audio from Tyler Matakevich and Stan Drayton and more of what we can take from last week's Cherry and White game.

Adam on the clock

Fisher was clearly the people's choice to read the fan boards. He was my favorite of those who got interviews. He presents well and has recruited some outstanding players. But he's now on the clock. He will have to be graded on a curve because of the late start. Waiting for commitments is as agonizing as the coaching search. Will he be able to sell Temple like he sold Miami with its NIL money and climate, and Penn State, which plays in a league, win its own TV Network? Or will he be stymied by the same headwinds Aaron faced (crime, money problems due to falling enrollment. instability in the president's office. lack of NIL money, and an apathetic fanbase as well as a feckless, visionless BOTs.)? I know I'm jumping the gun, but It'll be a couple of months before Bryce returns. five months until the Eagles kickoff and the theogony of watching the Sixers fall to the Green Shirts in the second round. We have half a roster to fill. How long before we hear of a signee who moves the needle? By the way, I was at Penn State Tuesday and was told by two people close to the program, who told me Jameel Brown does NOT want to return to PHILLY. I'm uncertain how reliable these guys are. Finally, how long does Adam have before the PhIckle Phans of Philly turn on him?
