I'm increasingly impressed by the quality of Quenton's play. Broadly speaking, he seems to be transitioning from a big guard to small forward. He is tall and athletic as all can see. He rebounds well and defends closer in, mixes it up, probably because he is asked given our need to help Jaylen. This connotes a team player.

Everyone sees and has seen his immense potential. He shoots very well and is .500 overall and the same from the three. Yet he is a force on drives and passes for dunks.

I think he is elevating his game, and, even though we've played six games there seems to be consistency that is developing. We sure need this.

Matt Rhule/Missouri Interview Question

JDC/Kyle - Is there any truth to the rumor that Matt Rhule had a terrible interview with Missouri which eliminated him from consideration for their job? The Rutgers board (I know the beacon of truth that it is) has some posters claiming that is what happened.

I wouldn't put any credence into this but I have seen it in a few different places other than the Rutgers board. I know these rumors just spread on the internet but just wanted to see if you had any information.

Thank you.

Golden's ties to current staff

After thinking about the possibility of Al Golden going to Rutgers, I was curious if anyone knows how many of our current coaches have previous ties to Al and his staff at Temple. With Rhule likely staying here for the foreseeable future, nothing would ruin our momentum more than Al trying to poach guys like Fran Brown, Elijah Robinson, and Co from our staff. Hopefully he keeps Mark D'Onofrio on his staff ensuring that Rutgers has the worst defense in the Big Ten

Temple offers JUCO RB (Former 4* top 80 recruit)

Temple reportedly offered KS JUCO RB Tyren Jones, who was dismissed from Alabama for possession of marijuana. Jones was the #79 recruit in the country out of HS. He has 2 years of eligibility remaining. Tulane and ULM have offered, and Auburn, among others, is interested.

A thought on Tyler Matakevich

I was just watching a video the AAC put on Facebook about Tyler being named the Defensive Player of the Year, and it occurred to me why the kid registers so man damn tackles:

His emphasis is not on delivering a stunning blow with his arms at his sides or with a forearm. Rather, he is relentless in his pursuit of the ball carrier, and then wraps him up and drives his legs through his man. In an age where "fierce hitters" are glorified (but no mention of when they simply bounce off their men), Tyler's form is a throwback to a time when fundamentals mattered. They should use his reel as a clinic in how to tackle.

So here's what I'm learning about these Owls...

According to these amazing announcers:
  1. Dingle is not known as a passer.
  2. Bond transferred from Texas Tech.
  3. DeCosey plays good defense and is a team leader.
  4. Mark Williams has good offensive moves (which he may, but you can't finish when your shot is always being blocked).
I need a drink. Glad I'm in FL and about to go to Columbia for Paella and Sangria.

PJ

I know this has been mentioned in other threads but I thought it deserved its own. I have been on record criticizing this offense. While I never jumped on PJ too much individually I thought the offense looked lost both last year and earlier this season. But, I have to say that it has really turned around since the ND game and it all starts with PJ.

I think that since the ND game, he has taken the team on his back. The defense obviously played their part in the Memphis and UConn games but knowing that other defenses would line up to stop Jahad, the offense lived and died with PJ. He took that and made it happen. He did his part against ND, he alone won the game for us against SMU and he made the plays necessary to win both the Memphis and UConn game. He has been playing composed and smart with the ball. He is using his legs more often making huge plays and is accurate with his passing. But most importantly, and this cannot be measured, but he looks like a real leader of men out there. He hasn't looked like that in the past but he does now. You can see it with the rest of the team. They all have more confidence and I think it started with PJ.

I have long been worried about 2016 given the departure of some key players on defense. Suddenly I feel much better knowing that we have a big time leader on the other side of the ball with some real weapons at the skill positions.

Hats off to PJ
