Carr Stevens and Bostick

Carr 21 points
Stevens 20 and 12 boards
Bostick 12 and 10 boards

All standout performances to beat Neumann who went 14-0 in regular season and capture their 2nd straight Catholic league title. These 3 would look awfully good in Cherry and White and speaks to the epic failure to not bring these guys to North Broad. Yes I know they are in Tulsa but every school in the area had someone at the sold out Palestra tonight and I'm not sure if TU was represented.

To be clear I think Dunphy is doing an amazing job coaching this team this year and I hope he is rewarded with a NCAA birth and back to back coach of the year awards but wow do we never need a fire lit under us in the recruiting area.

Go owls! Beat Tulsa!!

Tonya Cardoza

Has absolutely zero idea what she is doing. Temple just lost in 5OT (tied NCAA record) thanks to Memphis running the same play every single time, which was iso and dump in the post to their very large center. Temple never played zone, and only doubled the post a few times. They did nothing to force Memphis to shoot jumpers and just lost. The center scored 35, and really should've scored 100.

We deserve better coaching in men's and women's basketball. Absolutely inexcusable to have scholarship players who cannot handle a basketball, shoot a basketball, and jump for a rebound. If you think we're undersized for our men's team, you should see our women's team.

Obi

Watching Obi's recent growth has been truly a pleasure. While he has always been a great jump shooter it's hard to ignore his developing inside game and rebounding. He still has a long way to go on defense but I see no reason why he will not become a better than average defender. He was spectacular against Houston. Devin never gets a chance to hit that game deciding three without him.

6 seconds left

Don't want to nit-pick a win, but in the on going debate about Dunphy, I want to point about what happen in Houston's second to last possession. Houston's player backs up Obi, misses the shot, and then gets two uncontested offensive rebounds and scores. How does an experienced team like this simply concede two critical offensive rebounds? It has to be coaching. Battling for those rebounds kills precious time and is the difference between allowing them a possession to tie and forcing them to chuck a running three.

In any note, good win. Go Owls

RPI 14-15 vs 15-16 Updated 2/22/16

There has been a lot of talk about the selection committee de-emphasizing RPI in their selection process. My understanding is they still use it as a weight for ranking quality wins. Last year Temple finished with an RPI of 34 so we counted in the quality win department for other teams, but the committee didn't use that 34 to evaluate Temple per se. They use our opponents RPI and basically said...who did you beat?

Now with that said, let's look at this current year so far compared to last year.

14/15 Record vs. RPI 1-25 (1-5) 25-50 (1-3) 51-100 (5-0)

15/16 Record vs. RPI 1-25 (1-2) 25-50 (3-1) 51-100 (2-3)

Games left to play vs top 100 (VU 2, Houston 90, Tulsa 42)

Temple cant have any more bad losses so you have to win USF, UCF, Memphis, Tulane (I'd probably throw Houston in as well.)

Say you lose to #2 VU but beat Houston and Tulsa. Maybe pick up another top 50 win in the AAC Tourney...

Matt Vender joins OwlScoop

As I mentioned on the football forum, we're very excited to announce that Matt Vender, formerly the editor of Owls247, has joined our staff at OwlScoop. Matt had been leading coverage of Temple sports for the 247 network and has been covering Temple football recruiting as well as anyone around. We feel very fortunate to have him. And beyond football recruiting, Matt will be involved in all of our coverage as a whole - from football to hoops to features and hopefully The Scoop, our weekly podcast, as well.

Please join us in welcoming Matt! We're thrilled to have him aboard, and we trust he'll be a tremendous asset to the site - both now and in the future.

Nova Loss

Here's my (rather lengthy) take on the loss to Villanova from a student's perspective:

First off, Shizz should not have started that game. I completely understand Dunphy punishing Josh (for whatever the reason was), but Trey Lowe should've 100% started that game over Alston. Shizz looked intimidated, overwhelmed, and overmatched for those first 9 minutes before Brown checked in. If you're gonna sit Brown, Trey should have started.

Next, the crowd was electric pregame and for the first 4-5 minutes. It was awesome to see. But the crowd got taken out of the game pretty early and just never got back into it. Similarly, the team played along with that. They were into it for 5-10 minutes, but then fell behind and never were able to come back. Most of the first half, they played overmatched and like they didn't even want to be there. This has happened several times in the first half already this year, but it hasn't hurt us much yet because we've been able to come back in the second half (i.e. UConn). However, the difference was that Nova is too good of a team to mount a 10-15 point comeback in the second half. They are much better than UConn and would not let us come back the way we did against the Huskies.

Sidenote, Josh Brown should be passing the ball much more. He held the ball until 5 seconds on the shot clock several times and then just chucked up a prayer shot. Way too many poor shots from Josh (and others) throughout the whole game that resulted in wasted possessions. Against as good of a team as Nova, you can't waste any possessions. Josh needs to look around more and find the open player. Trey was jumping around trying to call for the ball multiple times because nobody was within 15 feet of him, but Josh didn't even give him a look. If Brown's going to run the offense, he needs to look around more and find the open player rather than holding onto the ball for 20-25 seconds and just throwing up a prayer.

Just my two cents and observations from a demoralizing loss in a game that would've been huge for our NCAA resume.

Semi OT: Opportunity Lost, Opportunity Gained

As I searched scores after this staff and TUBB came up very small last night, it was interesting to see how other programs responded to opportunities presented to them. Whether it be woeful SJU in crappy Carnesecca stopping their 16 game winless streak, cellar dwelling PSUBB defeating No.4/6 Iowa in the sticks or little SJU taking out No. 15 Dayton at that bandbox they call an arena, each one seized the home moment in one way or another. While none of these have a direct impact on the direction of TUBB (save for maybe the Hawks and getting an NCAA bid over TU this year), it was a bit sobering yesterday considering that weak-ass Temple showing.

Luckily the captain of this ship won't need to be "nervous" anymore this season as the LC can return to the quiet, half-empty, unemotional confines he seems much more comfortable working within. Although come to think of it, Hooter's b-day game could give him some agita. Adthomas said it the best, but it bears repeating, "small time", now and for the foreseeable future.

TU.
