Mailbag questions for The Scoop

We're taking mailbag questions for this week's episode of The Scoop up until 4 p.m. today if you have them.

Whether it's the roster, the coaching staff, recruiting or even something off-topic, send it in here and we'll get to as many as we can.

And as always, thank you so much for listening. We greatly appreciate it. If you haven't subscribed and added a rating and a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you access your podcasts, please do.

Uniforms

All start by saying that I'm a traditionalist and I like the Cherry & White unis of the Golden era. Some of the tweaks UnderArmour made to the traditional unis were good.

That being said ... I think it was a shame that the seniors did not play their last game in traditional Cherry & White.

This version of the black is horrendous. Cartoon numbers. No clear definition of the distinctive characteristics of Temple unis ... Cherry & White diamonds. Put them in a box and have the box delivered to Carey's home and let the moving van take them away.

I know ... bigger fish to fry. But, what the hell. Let's pile on at this point!

Mailbag questions for The Scoop

We're recording this week's podcast later today and taking mailbag questions up until 4 p.m., so please drop them in here if you have them.

And thank you as always for listening. If you haven't already subscribed to The Scoop, you can do so here:

As a programming note, we'll be recording the bulk of the pod, including the mailbag, prior to tonight's game, so any basketball mailbag questions we answer will be done prior to the game. We will have a game wrap-up in the pod that will be recorded later tonight.

A dive into D.J. Eliot's scheme

More terrific stuff from @Dante Collinelli, who does a great job here with background, context and easy-to-understand details on what Temple's defense could look like under D.J. Eliot, who's expected to become the Owls' next defensive coordinator.

OT: In Bob Saget's Memory

All,

Below is a link to the Scleroderma Research Foundation. His sister was diagnosed at 43 and passed away at 47. Bob was on the board and raised millions of dollars to the foundation. Scleroderma is an auto immune disease that is know for attacking the skeletal system, nerves and skin. It can also attack any and all internal organs. It is a hideous, horrible disease.

In addition., Bob produced and directed the 1986 television movie, For Hope, which raised so much awareness and funds.

A 1978 graduate and RTF major at (then called) The School of Communications and Theater, Bob was a huge supporter of both the college and the university. Nothing will honor his memory more than donating to the foundation that was so much a part off his life.

Thank You.

Temple Football Scholarship Board

Here's the current Temple football scholarship board. Couple of notes in regards to what might be the weirdest recruiting cycle of all time.

1. The most important note is that I'm not currently counting 2020 seniors that decided to come back against the scholarship count. The NCAA is expected to allow programs to not count these players. For example, Amir Tyler is most certainly on scholarship but he won't count against Temple's 85 scholarship limit in 2021. So despite Temple currently having 13 scholarship seniors, I'm only counting two (Ra'Von Bonner and Will Rodgers) toward the scholarship total. To be honest, I'm kind of guessing at this as the NCAA hasn't provided anything definitive on this manner. It's definitely possible that Bonner and Rodgers won't count toward the 85 limit either, at which point Temple would have two more scholarships to play around with.

2. None of the players that played in 2020 "progressed" to the next class on the scholarship table. For example, MJ Griffin played in six games in 2020 but is still considered a redshirt-freshman in 2020 despite it being his third year in the program.. Alex Odom is considered a true freshman despite playing in seven games in 2020 and making multiple starts. Basically, pretend 2020 didn't exist from a scholarship/class standpoint. This will likely become a stickier situation down the line but for now I'm going off of what the NCAA views the players as, eligibility wise.

3. You'll notice that some signed freshmen do not carry the "Has yet to enroll" distinction on the chart. That's because these players currently show up as students in Temple's student directory. Once they show up in the directory, I mark them as enrolled.

4. This is still very, very fluid. There are still a couple of players that we're monitoring but as of today, January 4, there are no Temple players currently on this chart that we're aware of that are definitely leaving. As we've seen over the last few weeks, however, that can change at the drop of a dime. For example, I held off on publishing this list as we were 99 percent sure that Branden Mack was going pro but it had not been announced yet. As always, we'll update the chart as we get more info.

With all that in mind, here's where Temple is at.

Current Roster

Now that everyone seems to be recognizing that this is a young team with potential, how many of the kids did our lousy staff of coaches recruit. Seems to me, everyone has been critical of our recruiting, Sure we need a solid big man, although Jordain may eventually be the man. We also could use a 3 point go to guy, but maybe that's Hicks. Be patient TU fans and be supportive.
