Pepe Sanchez

Former Temple point guard Pepe Sanchez will be one of four Big 5 Hall of Fame inductees on Monday, April 13, at the Palestra. He's going in along with Stan Hochman (media), Ugonna Onyekwe (former Penn forward) and Bill Raftery in what's being described as a "special category."

Pretty cool and varied class and a great accomplishment for Sanchez, the best Temple point guard I ever saw with my own eyes.

Ironically enough, when I asked Fran Saturday about the last time he had a forward like Obi Enechionyia, he mentioned Onyekwe, who was a very good player at Penn.

NJcom.: Is Temple now Rutgers football's newest recruiting rival?

I didn't see this posted on the site, and thought it was interesting.

"When Temple football landed a verbal commitment from four-star recruit Kareem Ali Jr. of Timber Creek High this July ...
(t)he addition also showed that Temple, located just over the boarder
in Philadelphia, remains a serious player for some of New Jersey's top
recruits."

Is Rutgers sweating Temple?

any surprises

John

Typically you hear teams over- recruiting and then stashing a kid or gray shirting them. If TU runs the gambit they are only at 21 their full allotment. Have you heard any whispers about any last minute surprises in case they don't get all 4

Twitter, ongoing coverage

If you use Twitter and you're not following us already, please do at @OwlScoop_com and @kylegauss. As things pick up tomorrow, we'll be posting a lot of stuff to Twitter first as it breaks, especially tomorrow morning.

We'll have stories and interviews tomorrow from Matt's press conference, interviews with assistants, hopefully something from Kareem Ali and virtually anyone and everyone we can talk to.

Highlights

With all the excitment around signing day I decided to focus my attention on making highlight videos for 2 of our great players. PJ Walker and Jalen Fitzpatrick, would have loved to make one for both Tyle Matakevich and Tevon Young both, but I could not find enough highlight plays for them and i dont have the game film. I wish Temple would start making highlight videos for our best players, other schools from the power 5 do this and it helps raise the players profile and also with recruiting.

2015 OOC schedule

Next year we have 3 games in the Puerto Rico TipOff and 4 vs the Big 5. I hope we can get at least 4 of the other 6 non-conference games against teams in the top 50.
Something like:
Syracuse/Duke/Virginia
Georgetown/Butler/St.Johns
UCLA/Stanford/Cal
WesternKentucky/Murray State/Davidson
Gonzaga/Xavier/VCU/Wichita State

Corey Gaarn

Temple got Bergen Catholic wide receiver Corey Gaarn to commit this weekend as a walk-on, which could be an under-the-radar pickup for the Owls. He reminds a lot of people of former Temple wideout Ryan Alderman - a slot receiver who can find seams in the field.

His teammate, offensive guard Joe Woerner, will also be coming to Temple as a walk-on.

Another visitor

I just mentioned him in another thread, but it looks like Temple will in fact be getting a visit this weekend from Canadian defensive end Mathieu Betts, who plays at Vieux High School in Montreal.

Take a look at his film. The kid can play. Has great hands, really gets off blocks well.

I talked to Brian Neubert from the Purdue Rivals site earlier this week. They do a nice job over there and are very thorough. Brian told me that at the time it looked like Betts might commit to Purdue, but he told me to keep an eye on Wednesday and that if Betts got past Wednesday without committing, he could be moving along to another visit, and that's what has happened.

A source I spoke with this morning confirmed that Betts will be visiting this weekend.

Betts

crunch time

JDC,

Your recent posts have put the state of the team on a realistic footing. We have strong areas like the defensive back field, and solid areas like the defensive line, but areas of concern like the offensive line, skill positions like running back , wide outs and tight ends and the truth be told what would we do if our QB is injured. There are prospects in each of these areas who might emerge including some freshmen, but the quality of our incoming class and the depth in the team would leap if,a combination of A. Jennings,M.Betts, TJ Simmons, A. Talan and D. Williams sign next week. Otherwise we look to be a team that will struggle to match the win total of last year,s team. There are still sleepers on our roster who might emerge, but I don,t see a no 2 QB or even a solid kicking game to take us over the hump.

Does anyone know when Hooter the Owls b-day party is? I thought I was on Feburary 14th against ECU but I am not sure I think we are undeated on his birthday and it always brings a very good crowd. Also does anyone know if there is going to be a white out game this year? I would imagine it would be against UConn but I am not sure if they are having one this year.
