The AAC has done a wonderful job winning this year. The 3 ranked teams are not by mistake, it's because we have given ourselves chances to win non-conference against some good and traditionally good teams.

This is something that must continue.

Now, as far as our own house goes -- what big time programs have we signed to play us? I know Vandy owes us a return game. Also, ND will be in 2017. Any others we have on future schedule? This new conference needs to have that John Chaney mentality - play anyone/anywhere.

I decided that I had to see Temple's first game ranked in person in my lifetime so I jumped in my car and drove down to Greenville to see the Owls against ECU. I am not an alumnus but have been a lifelong Temple football fan. I listened to every miserable game during the Berndt/Dickerson/Wallace eras so there was no way I was going to miss this bucket list moment. A buddy I know lives in Greenville so I headed to his place and we went over at about 4.

We parked about 2 blocks away on a residential street in a beautiful area. I wasn't out of my car 2 seconds wearing my Temple jersey when a couple of ECU fans walking by welcomed me to ECU. We walked another block closer to the stadium and every house seemed to be having an outdoor party. Some of the houses seemed to be frats and sororities and almost everyone was in black for their "black out." Not one person said anything negative to me about having an Owl jersey on. Finally a group ECU fans accosted us and made us drink their beer and shots, fed us shrimp, and talked at length about the two teams and the AAC. It is great to see the conference is getting the comraderie necessary in building rivalries against each other and other conferences.

We moved on and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. The stadium looks like it is dropped in the middle of a nice neighborhood. Part of the parking is actually a middle school's athletic fields, lot and playground. We joined a couple more tailgates and were told if I ever come back to make sure I stop by again.

We walked in the stadium and it is neat to see a stadium built solely for their team. We had great seats at the 50 and everyone around me actually seemed glad I was there. Another Owl fan was 2 rows in front of and drove in from Greensboro.

ECU fans are REALLY into their Pirates. It was a great atmosphere but I do not think their is a place in the country that could rattle this Temple team. They seem to be very even keeled. Every first down by ECU was followed by a Pirate " Aaargh." I needed to make a few trips to the lav (small bladder + LOTS to drink) and not one time walking by hundreds of ECU fans did I hear anything negative.

Thoughts on the game. I am a season tix holder at the Linc but my seats are too low to get a view of the whole field from above. I am a PJ fan but he had receivers running free all game. He is not getting past his 2nd read (if he even gets past the first). He needs to simply play better if this team is going to beat Notre Dame and Memphis. With that being said...he is winning. Ventrel Bryant is a stud in the making. He should be PJ's first look. Big - strong - fast....he ran free across the middle all game. Like Christopher Walkan said "I need more cowbell," I need more Kip. He is an underutilized weapon.

This defense is really good. Very rarely out of position. Two mistakes cost them (the long pass on 3rd down that led to a touchdown drive and the missed tackle on the QB that allowed him to get a first down. They need to be at their best on Saturday. I cannot wait for the whole country to see them and especially Matakevich in action.

7-0 with Notre Dame and Gameday coming to town. The 8 PM ABC game. Are you freaking kidding! I remember where I was listening to Cal beat us 63-0. What a great opportunity to show off this team and the city. As much as I hat the Irish, I just hope that Temple fans treat their fans the way I was treated at ECU before- during - and and after the game. Go Owls!

How about Tyler this year? It really says something about your team/program when your 4 year starter, team leader and record breaking linebacker continues to elevate his game every single season. First Coach Rhule challenged him to start making tackles in the backfield instead of down the field. Easy, double digit tfl's the next two seasons. This spring Rhule said he wanted to see him become a better playmaker in passing situations. Now he has 4 sacks and 4 interceptions through 7 games, both career highs by a long shot.

Late in the fourth quarter, I clearly heard fans cheering DEFENSE, DEFENSE, while we were on D. Came through very clear on TV. Great job!

Kevin Neghandi of ESPN is a Temple grad and huge Owls fan. I sent him 3 tweets already tonight to use some influence to get GameDay next week.

I was also somewhat surprised by the orientation of the stadium. From earlier input I thought it was going to parallel Broad St. and run from Montgomery to Norris. Actually the East/West positioning seems to make more sense. I have heard a few ideas for tailgating. I'll be curious to see how that is resolved. They will probably run shuttles from the El to the facility. For any of you architects, or engineers out there, is it possible (and/or practical) to build a multi level parking facility below the field?

Well let's see... so far our receivers have dropped two TD passes. PJ threw a terrible pass to Anderson who was four yards behind his defender, the pass defense is non-existent, as is our pass rush.
One fourth and three our DBs were are least 5-7 yards off the line of scrimmage. We need press coverage. Our pass rush is being stimied by uncalled holding. On the replay of their TD, Matekevich was clearly held.
Hopefully we will make the necessary adjustments on defense. If our receivers hang onto the ball and PJ makes good throws we should score a lot of points on this team.

A thing of beauty that last 3 I/2 minutes at ECU last night! A little Stones came to mind and a little Simon and Garfunkel! The ECU fans appropriately dressed in black and heading for the exits in silence after that 73 seconds that caused it all! I just wished I was there! I'll be at ND!

I was surprised that crowd wasnt louder from the get go. From what I heard I expected PJ would be unable to hear signals. Nippert was more intense.

I have no idea how they do it. That certainly wasn't a pretty performance, but they found a way to get a W. I couldn't be more proud of how hard they fight. We are winning games we would've lost last year. Go Owls!

The OWLS hang in there with defense, and pulled out a win. This is on of the biggest wins I've seen in over 50 years, To go 7-0 is a dream. I honestly thought this would be a trap game, ECU would play the same defense as UMass used, crowd the line with 8 and stop what TU wanted to do. But we have just to give credit to these players who just "refused to lose". WOW!!! Awesome WIN, what ever happens against ND, So What.

Just a wonderful win.

Someone posted in one of the other threads that ECU is not Alabama, that's correct. But this is a monster game for our season. I don't think we can underestimate how everything tilts uphill for us in this game. Revenge factor, being on the road, ranked team, etc.

We match up well defensively and if both teams play to their strengths, it should be very entertaining. We need to win the battle at the line of scrimmage and control the tempo. This will keep our defense fresh and their offense off the field. I would love to see us get the ball to Thomas in space and utilize Patton over the middle of the field. We're going to have to take a shot or two deep to keep 9 guys out of the box.

We're going to have to pile up yards on the ground and P.J. needs to be turnover free. Our defense is also going to have to get to the quarterback and create a couple turnovers i.e. sack/fumble, tipped pass.

I have a feeling that a late turnover wins this game. Someone other than Jahad needs to have a special day on offense. Winning on Thursday night would set North Broad Street off in a frenzy.
