Trey Lowe likely out for remainder of the season

Trey Lowe was involved in a one-car accident Sunday morning and will likely miss the remainder of the season due to upper-body injuries he suffered in the accident. He is being cared for at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J.

"I visited Trey and his family on both Sunday and Monday at the hospital," Fran Dunphy said in a statement issued today. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time and we are hopeful that he will make a full recovery."

Obviously a tough thing for Lowe and the team to deal with right now. From a reporter's perspective, he's been great to deal with from the time I met him, and I'm sure his teammates would say the same.

MEMPHIS

They seems like a very tough match-up for us, in spite of their road record. It is hard to imagine how they lose so many games. With our depth depleted by the loss of Lowe, I would expect that all 10 scholarship players may have to contribute. Watson starting may be a blessing in disguise, to keep Obi or Bond out of foul trouble. Memphis is relentless at attacking the rim.
Stat to chew on:
Memphis is 576-800 from the line this year, Temple is 309-446. WOW!

LOLL

Does Temple seem to loll around while on offense? When I watch other teams play there's a lot more movement away from the ball. Temple seems to be bombing away from 3 point range, and the pick and roll is more nose-related. Are the Owls just conserving energy for the conference tournament?

Dunphy's age

According to wiki he is 68 this coming October.

I'd have to think a question on recruits minds will soon be, is this guy going to be around for all 4 years?

If age isn't already a factor in negative recruiting against Dunph (which is already easy considering his abysmal tournament record, and recent NCAA misses), it soon will be.

Nobody give me the Larry Brown crap. Larry is an anomaly and his comparing his resume to Dunphy is apples to oranges. Don't go there.

There is no way in hell he gets another extension on his contract. So that means there is also no way in hell they let him ride till he is 72 and a total lame duck. He will get no recruits when they know his time is about to be up. We need to do the deed this year if we miss the NCAA. Next year for certain.

Im hoping Dunphy will retire with grace if he makes the NCAA this season to go out on a high note... For his sake and ours...anyone else think it's a possibility?

Team just can't be consistent

And it's very frustrating. As a fan, I can take a loss, what's hard to swallow is not just not knowing what Temple team will show up game to game, but not knowing what Temple team will show up moment to moment within games. The team literally changes personalities within games. It's maddening.

How does Temple build a 25-13 lead against Tulsa and just flatline in such an important contest? I know there are talent issues but there is something else going on here. Tulsa doesn't have that much more talent than Temple. We're not talking Nova, UNC, etc.

Our Temple teams -- win or lose -- just don't even have an identity anymore.

On another note, somebody on this team's staff better teach Obi how to play defense, because as prolific as a shooter as he is, he's an absolutely atrocious defender. Next year will be a disaster with him being the primary player in the post.

Matt Vender joins OwlScoop

We're very excited to announce that Matt Vender, formerly the editor of Owls247, has joined our staff at OwlScoop. Matt has been covering Temple football recruiting as well as anyone around and we feel fortunate to have him. And beyond football recruiting, Matt will be involved in all of our coverage as a whole - from football to hoops to features and hopefully The Scoop, our weekly podcast, as well.

Please join us in welcoming Matt! We're thrilled to have him aboard, and we trust he'll be a tremendous asset to the site - both now and in the future.

Owls offer 2017 Florida athlete

Temple delivered an offer to 2017 Raines High School (Fla.) athlete Willie Wright on Wednesday, as he announced via Twitter.

Temple recruiting assistant Adam DiMichele, who gave Wright a phone call on Wednesday to deliver the offer, made one thing crystal clear.

"They need speed," Wright told OwlScoop.com. "They just look for speed. I know that."

The speed trend is nothing new for Temple. The Owls made speed a priority in the 2016 recruiting class and inked burners such as wide receivers Freddie Johnson and Randle Jones (two Florida natives) and running back Tyliek Raynor.

Although Wright plays a combination of running back and wide receiver at Raines, Temple envisions him as a slot receiver.

Wright, a 5-foot-8, 155-pounder, said that he typically clocks "around a 4.47" 40-yard dash time.

According to MaxPreps.com, Wright had 27 receptions for 254 yards (9.4 average) and five touchdowns as a junior. He also returned both kicks and punts.

TUBB Next 5 Games

I'm not sure what many of you think, but I believe the next 5 games in series could create the most challenging part of the schedule. The only "gimme" if you will is USF at home. It's conceivable TU could go 1-4 over this stretch. I hope I'm incorrect and this staff has the boys prepared to come out on the positive side of the ledger.
