Presidential Search

First round interviews should be scheduled in February, according to this official update
Members of the search committee: Temple News.

It appears the aim is to extend an offer this spring. My guess is the new President will start July 1 or thereabouts.

Temple is in dire need of an infusion of strong leadership following Wingard's era of self-idolatry and what's amounted to survival mode following his departure. I have no reason to expect any meaningful change or direction on the athletics front until a new President takes the helm. And while Athletics is far from the biggest challenge Temple faces right now, some highly consequential decisions are looming and let's hope the search committee gives this consideration when vetting candidates.

News and notes

A few things to pass along:

Bobby Jordan was down in DC tonight to watch Gonzaga class of 2025 guard William Harper. He had 15 points in Gonzaga's 69-60 win over DeMatha. We wrote about him back in the fall when Harper, KJ Cochran and eventual signee Aiden Tobiason took an unofficial visit in October.

As far as the current roster, Steve Settle was back with the team today at practice. Barring any setbacks, I'd be surprised if he doesn't play Sunday at Tulane.

Also, Taj Thweatt was back in the facility today. I can't confirm that he'll play Sunday, and that could be based on lineups, game situations and coaching decisions, but it looks like things have trended in the direction of him being back with the team.

OT: "Harvard Beats Yale 29-29"

I stumbled across this documentary. It's a fascinating watch. The story of undefeated #16 ranked Yale taking on undefeated but unranked Harvard in 1968. David vs. Goliath with an amazing come-from-behind "victory". Notable players include Calvin Hill, Brian Dowling, and Tommy Lee Jones (yes, the actor). Interesting backstories include the Vietnam War, the political unrest of the late 60's, "you're number two", and the Mickey Mouse theme song. Also, some interesting anecdotes about Gary Trudeau ("Doonesbury"), Meryl Streep, George Bush, and Al Gore. I highly recommend. It's also available on free streaming TV on Tubi and Gravitas and for a few $'s on Amazon Prime.

The good ol' days of college football that we will never see the likes of ever again.

Jim Harbaugh & Temple

Harry mentioned an interesting tidbit during tonight's USF game broadcast - Temple interviewed Jim Harbaugh for the head coaching vacancy eventually filled by Al Golden. I had completely forgotten about that, but it's particularly interesting right now and perhaps a little known piece of TUFB history.

I'm guessing this might be a WTF moment for some fans, but despite Harbaugh's recent achievements, I'm at complete peace as I firmly believe AG was the right coach at the time for TUFB.

Defensive end visiting Temple

Snow College defensive end Tray Swaningan is currently visiting Temple, OwlScoop.com has learned.

Swaningan was named a JCGridiron First Team All American and an NJCAA Second Team All American after he compiled 6.5 sacks and 9.5 TFL as a redshirt-freshman this season. The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Swaningan also has offers from schools like Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion and Western Kentucky.

3-Star wideout visiting this weekend

Lakeland (FL) wideout Jamar Taylor is taking an official visit to Temple this weekend, he announced.

Taylor also has offers from schools like Colorado, Pitt, UCF, USF and West Virginia.

Ideally, Temple wants to take at least one more wideout in this class. The class already includes high schoolers Bryson Goodwin and Tyler Stewart, as well as Grambling State transfer Antonio Jones. That additional wideout could be Taylor or JUCO wideout Leland Smith, who visited last weekend but is also considering schools like Purdue and Miami (FL).
