Temple football rest of the way

Here’s what’s left of our schedule. We need 4 wins. I see the wins having to come from Tulsa, North Texas, Navy, USF, and UAB. Unfortunately 4 of our most beatable opponents are on the road. Thought this was a more positive approach to discussion for us than focusing mostly on what’s next. Miami. Also this is really a watered down league. Losing UCF UH and Cincinnati really hammered the American hard.

Sept 23 Miami (3-0) probably a L
Sept 28 @Tulsa (1-2) probs bottom half
Oct 7 UTSA (1-2) better than record indicates
Oct 14 @North Texas (1-2) bottom half of league
Oct 20 SMU (2-1) will probs be a bowl team
Nov 4 Navy (1-2, 0-1) beatable
Nov 11 @USF (1-2) not buying the hype
Nov 18 @UAB (1-2) looks bad enough
Nov 25 Memphis (3-0, 1-0) very solid not great

The Scoop with Tywan Francis

Thanks for the mailbag questions and everyone's continued support of The Scoop.

Here's this week's episode with Tywan Francis, along with a tribute to the late, wonderful JoAnne Epps at the top of the show.

January enrollees

Temple's spring semester officially starts tomorrow and a number of transfers, high school signees, JUCO signees and prep school signees are currently enrolled. The following players are currently on campus and will participate in spring practice.

Dante Atton - Punter
Diego Barajas - OL
Kaleb Barnett - CB
Diwun Black - LB
Peter Clarke - TE
Tyler Douglas - QB
Preston Everhart - WR
Tywan Francis - Safety
Allan Haye - DT
Ben Osueke - CB
Melvin Siani - OL
Joquez Smith - RB
Kamar Wilcoxson - Safety
Kyle Williams - RB
EJ Wilson - RB
Luke Watson - OL
Dante Wright - WR

This list is fluid so don't be surprised if there are a couple more kids that show up before spring ball.

Taking mailbag questions until 2 p.m. today for The Scoop

Thanks as always for listening!

Snap Counts

Whoever put that list together needs to recheck their information.

Darvon Hubbard RB had 4 carries for 21 yards and a TD and he caught a pass for 32 yards. Yet he is missing from the list of Offensive players.

I am sure there are more players who saw action last Saturday that were also overlook and missing from the list.

(Not that I am a stickler for accuracy, but I did spend 40+ years as an auditor.) LOL

GO OWLS!!!

Temple makes massive leap in USN&WR rankings

Massive leap. Tied for #89 in national universities, Tied for #45 in public schools. National ranking is tied with SMU and USF. Ahead of Drexel. Within distance of PSU (#60), Pitt and Villanova (tied at #67) and Delaware (#76)

Next step, AAU status and crossing the billion dollar endowment threshold. Despite everything people say and leadership ineptitude it’s truly a great place

Opinion Poll on the prospect of U Delaware to FBS

If UD upgrades to FBS, the overall impact on Temple athletics in 10-15 years will be....

  • Beneficial

    Votes: 6 28.6%
  • Neutral

    Votes: 10 47.6%
  • Detrimental

    Votes: 5 23.8%

Considering UD's potential upgrade to FBS, I appreciate the immediate appeal of a nearby opponent, but I'm not so sure another FBS mouth to feed in the region would be beneficial to Temple. How might this impact TU's market share, recruiting, fanbase? Potential for a more geographically favorable conference home ? ...What if it's in a new eastern flank in the MAC with UMass and UD?

There's a number of complexities in play, but ultimately, do you think UD's upgrade would be a good or bad for Temple athletics? Here's a poll to gauge where the fanbase stands....

Owls at Scarlet Knights Preview and Prediction

  • Again TU players are dazed out of the locker room. This time by the disparate images (TU home attendance vs B1G at night)
  • TU lack of depth on both sides of the line of scrimmage kicks in during the 2nd half
  • Continued pedestrian play at the RB position equals another game < 100 yds rushing
  • WRs get hammered after the catch, one or two go down:(
  • Temple D can't contain the RU mobile QB, leading Withers to wits end
  • Drayton uses a timeout in the first qtr just to figure out how to use the remaining TOs
  • Rigby does another great impression of the human tackling machine, Tyler Matakevich
RU wins 27-16
  • The RU loss means <10K in the seats for Norfolk St as only a few BOT members will actually attend the game
  • Who cares, is anybody home, and please keep the lights on?
  • BOT lack of support, in person attendance must be documented and published. Who are these people in positions of power and what are they doing/not doing to support TUFB?

Injury update

Diego Barajas is not in uniform for today's game, so we'll keep an eye on who starts at left tackle for Temple. Barajas came back into the game last Saturday, but he's not in the lineup today. Melvin Siani obviously stepped in for him last week when he got hurt, but I don't think it's a given that he'll get the start today.

Getting you prepared for tonight's game

Here's our preview from Zach Silverstein, along with a link to this weeks podcast.
