Lots of great stuff from Colin this week. We talked about last week's win over USF, this Saturday's game against Tulane, the injuries, Isaiah Wright and the potential impact of the Fair Pay To Play Act.

Updates on Picozzi, Davis, Walls and Wright

In case you missed our updates on Twitter, right guard Vince Picozzi had season-ending surgery today, Rod Carey said during today's American Athletic Conference coaches' call. He said the competition to fill his starting spot is "wide open."

Carey also told me he's "hopeful" of running back Re'Mahn Davis playing Saturday against Tulane.

Benny Walls' status, on the other hand, is still up in the air.

When I asked him why Isaiah Wright did not see a single snap on offense last Thursday and only played on special teams, this was Carey's response:

"Well, the way he moved around today and practiced today, I think his body certainly feels better,” Carey said. “He’s in there competing. I would expect him to earn it this week and get back out there. He’s a good football player and we like using him. That would be my hope and the expectation.”

When asked if Wright being limited to return duties and not playing offensive snaps was injury-related or a result of being outworked by his fellow receivers, Carey said, “There was a lot of competition out there. A lot. And I think the combination of maybe how his body was feeling and how he worked in practice, the combination of that led to that last Thursday. So it’s probably a combination of both this week as well going forward. So I wouldn’t point to one thing. That’s a good room we’ve got at wide receiver and there’s a lot of good football players.”

Kicking Game

Quietly, our punting and place kicking have shown continued improvement from the start of the year. Barry has settled down and the snapping has been consistent. Mobley has been a pleasant surprise and has gradually been increasing his FG range. If Mobley continues his good work, he deserves a scholarship next year in my opinion.

BTW, Owls are 4 1/2 pt home dogs this week against the Green Wave. I like our Owls as the offense finally awakens.

Travel Stats

Was talking to my friend tonight that has been to all 6 bowl games since the Golden Era of Temple football started... DC, ABQ, Boca, Annapolis, St Pete, and Shreveport. Anyone else here been to all 6?

I've been to 5... Skipped ABQ.

Also we were comparing total venues we've seen the Owls play. I'm at 16 or will be tomorrow with USF. He's at 13. Curious how other people are doing on their counts? I'm sure there are some people well over 20 or even over 30 venues out there?

OT -- Wawa to Gator Country

I am happy:

"Blue and orange confetti is usually accompanied by cheers of “Go Gators” and an appearance by Albert and Alberta, but on Tuesday fans took photos with Wawa’s Wally Goose in anticipation of new stores coming to Gainesville.

Wawa, a Pennsylvania-based chain of convenience stores and gas stations, is expected to open five locations in Gainesville by 2021, store leaders announced at a groundbreaking ceremony at 1007 E. University Ave. Two stores at 2372 SW Archer Road and 1614 W. University Ave. are expected to open in spring 2020."
