Bowl Projections

Going into the last weekend of the regular season, it appears that several major conferences will not meet their bowl obligations. The SEC has at least 10 bowl commitments, but assuming Georgia/ Alabama and LSU are in the CFP, they only have 8 eligibile teams. The Big 12: 6 for 7, the ACC: 7 for 11 (could be 9 for 11 if both BC and UNC win their last games, the Big 10: 7 for 9 unless Mich St. wins, PAC12: 7 for 6, but could be 9 for 6 if both Oregon St. and Colorado win.
So it looks like their will be openings for G6 teams to play in better bowl games.
Right now, Temple is projected to play in the Cure vs Georgia St. (College Footbal News), Frisco vs So. Miss. (Bleacher report), Boca Raton vs W. Mich (Athlon), and Military vs Louisville (ESPN) or Indiana (Yahoo).
The good news is that we're going bowling regardless of where! Stay tuned

Roster updates

A source I spoke with today said the program is still awaiting word on a decision on Jake Forrester's waiver status, so it's not a foregone conclusion that he will not play this season.

Also, the team is hoping to possibly get freshman guard Damian Dunn back by the Dec. 17 game against Miami in Brooklyn or perhaps the Dec. 21 game against Rider. These things are fluid as always, but it appears he could possibly be back in the mix before conference play starts.

Haven't seen this level of competitiveness...

...in a Temple team in a long, long time. There is an energy to their game that was missing under the previous regime. This team looks like they enjoy doing things like playing defense, rebounding the basketball and taking contact. They also look like they are having fun. Looks like Aaron is going to restore pride back in the program. I think he knows what type of players he wants and IF he can get enough of them, Temple Owls basketball will be back!

Go Owls!

Owls in the transfer portal?

Any word if any owls are in the transfer portal? I noticed sean ryan has been chummy with minnesota gophers lately and Jovan Fair with Baylor. Not sure if just coincidence. I realize this new portal is simply allowing other coaches to reach out to you - but would be great to figure out if any owls are looking at other options.

Would really hate to see ryan go - he is a stud.

Visitor over the weekend

Per a couple of sources, OwlScoop.com has confirmed that former Temple commit and Rutgers transfer Raheem Blackshear visited Temple over the weekend.

Blackshear, who originally committed to Temple in 2016 but decommitted during the transition from Matt Rhule to Geoff Collins, led Rutgers in both rushing yards (586 yards) and receiving yards (367 yards) in 2018. Blackshear was dominant in the receiving game this year, as he had 29 catches for 310 yards and two touchdowns before shutting it down after four games to retain a year of eligibility.

Blackshear should have two years of eligibility left at his next stop.

Despite the hiring of Greg Schiano, Blackshear is not expected to return to Rutgers.

Nice to be back!

I cancelled my subscription two years ago. My job situation was in flux, so I became overly austere and weeded out a lot of subscriptions at that time (Netflix, Hulu, Owlscoop!! etc). I was also really fed up with the state of Men's hoops, and became very disenchanted with the University I love. That said, I kept my football season tix and annual tiny donation to the College of Lib Arts, but every chance I got -- emailed the AD and President seeking change at the hoops HC position.

We got change in the form of an announcement of McKie succeeding Dunph. While I was happy, I wasn't sold.

Well, now, I'm SOLD. McKie has average talent on this team, let's be honest. There are no 5-star recruits, maybe a couple 4-star? Either way... he has them playing as a TEAM with ENERGY. DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE, and BALL MOVEMENT. We don't have any bang bang shooters, but the fact they are moving the ball and being so unselfish is giving these guys a real chance. They play fearlessly, and after their close loss to MD I have no doubt they will attack any opponent with the mindset that they can win. If we get into the NCAA tournament... well, watch out.

I've been watching every game this season like it's a tournament game. I almost have to laugh at myself because I'm cursing and clapping at the TV like a total quack on every possession. When I reflect on why it matters so much to me - it's because there is energy again. That's all I've wanted - energy and a better chance to compete. That alone can will us to a few wins we might now otherwise get.

It's fun to watch this team grow together!
