New Big 5 Format. Meh.

I do think the tournament is cool. But can we do leaders versus legends or something?
Temple and Villanova not playing each other regularly is a broken tradition. It’s possible you don’t play them for years.

The idea that you fix the Big 5 by redoing it is weird. It was down because Nova was dominate, the other coaches at the time couldn’t carry their weight. Now you have new coaches at TU, Nova, and Joes… and you have parity and things looking up across the board. (I was actually really impressed by the Joes, and I can see how Billy Lange could be a real smooth recruiter).

So the point is, it would have been more competitive Big 5 this year regardless of the tournament.

I’m good with the tournament if we can figure out how to play Nova regularly. You don’t want the traditions to die.

And Nova was typically a ranked team on the schedule. So you could count on that one for SOS. Bigger question for TU going forward ….. how the heck are we gonna schedule a tough OOC. We will need it in this AAC to beat named teams early on.

Official Visitors - 12/1/23

Here's the list of this weekend's official visitors. A reminder that the transfer portal doesn't officially open for most players until Monday so there were never going to be any FBS transfers on campus this weekend.

Mailbag questions for The Scoop

Good morning, everyone.

We're taking mailbag questions until 2 p.m. today for this week's episode of The Scoop, so if you have something for us, please drop it in here and we'll look forward to answering it on the podcast.

It's certainly been an eventful week, so if you need to vent, we're here for you.

La Salle Line

I read just now TU is favored by 4/4.5. That surprised me actually and with no White I anticipated the Fighting Fishers would be 1/2 point dogs to Old Man Fran.

Another fun observation will be attendance with students back and a B5 "rival". Here's one prediction FWIW;

Despite the records in this game Temple is the better overall team. The Owls have a tougher schedule to this point and are better on both sides of the ball. Look for Temple to control this game as their defense will keep LaSalle in check at home. Take the Temple Owls to thrive in front of their home fans resulting in a win and cover to end their recent skid. Final Score Prediction, Temple Owls win and cover 76-69.

Temple Football is on the Right Path

First of all, i want to say that I know this season did not work out the way we ALL hoped it would. Having said that, I would like to say I am extremely excited about where Temple Football is heading. Coach Stan Drayton (and the rest of the great staff) have started to build something special. This is the second year (really only 1.5 years for the entire staff) and the team had to deal with adversity the likes no one can anticipate. THEY NEVER GAVE UP!!! (Please read that again). The coaching staff has shown the type of players they are looking for and those players are showing results (on and off the field) already! I have FULL confidence in Coach Drayton and the ENTIRE coaching staff that they will continue down this path. That makes me VERY excited about what is to come.

Pregame Notes: Milestones/Records watch

Milestones to be on the lookout for:

EJ Warner
  • Needs 244 passing yards to become the first Temple player with multiple 3,000-yard seasons.
    • Would need a monster 550-yard game (Which would be a single-game record) to set the single-season mark.
  • Needs 194 yards to pass Mike McGann for No. 4 on Temple’s all-time passing list.
  • Needs one passing TD to tie PJ Walker and Brian Broomell for most in a Temple season. Two to set the record, obviously.
    • One passing TD would also tie him with Adam DiMichele for No. 4 on Temple's all-time list.
  • A 200-yard game would give him 10 for the season, the most ever by a Temple quarterback in a season.
    • He already owns the record for 250-yard games and is tied for 300-yard games with himself and 2016 PJ Walker.
  • Needs 16 completions to pass Mike McGann for No. 4 on Temple’s all-time list.
    • Needs 40 completions to pass Anthony Russo for No. 3.
David Martin-Robinson
  • Eight catches away from 100 career receptions.
Amad Anderson
  • Eight catches away from 100 career receptions.
Alex Odom
  • Needs one tackle to become the 49th person in Temple history with 200 career tackles.
Temple as a team
  • Needs 335 passing yards to set the single-season record.
  • Needs 25 attempts for most pass attempts in a season.
  • Amad Anderson (478 yards) Dante Wright (477 yards) and Zae Baines (415 yards) could all join David Martin-Robinson with 500+ receiving yards this season. If all four somehow do it, that would be a Temple record. If two of them do it, that would tie the 2016 and 2017 teams for the all-time Temple mark.
