Former walk-ons Mariano Valenti and Rory Bell both earned scholarships, they announced today on twitter.
Valenti originally committed to Carey's NIU program as a scholarship player over offers from Toledo, Kent State and Central Michigan. He came to Temple as a walk-on transfer and was forced to sit out the 2020 season. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Valenti was part of the quarterback competition this spring and ended the spring as the presumptive No. 3 quarterback as a redshirt-freshman. He has four years of eligibility left.
Bell joined Temple as a walk-on kicker last summer and successfully connected on 5-of-5 field goal attempts and 3-of-4 extra point attempts after replacing Will Mobley halfway through the season. The true freshman Bell struggled on kickoffs, however, and sent five of his 17 kickoff attempts out of bounds. Bell will have four seasons of eligibility left.
