Something to monitor

Fisher going back to the job title we just hired him from and taking less money and a demotion… for what? If he got fired from temple in a year or two he can just go right back to a premier university at that exact same title. Makes zero sense lol.

It makes a lot of sense. Reset your clock, don’t get “fired.” Jeff Linder was at a Mountain West school and left to be Grand McCasland’s top assistant at Texas Tech. Chip Kelly in football. It’s not unheard of

Since when is Fisher going to get fired lol? Idk about you but fish doesn’t strike me as a guy who quits because he’s under a little pressure. Hes got two 4 star high school prospects coming in and should have some more resources to work with next offseason. He just had a run to the conference tournament in his first year while his best player was actively losing games on purpose. Hes probably had to deal with more adversity for a first time head coach than anyone else has in the last decade. I mean, come on…

I didn’t say he was getting fired. I’m saying it’s not unheard of for guys to do this and go reset their clocks before you can even get on the hot seat. Again, Jeff Linder had made a tournament as an at large in 2022 at WYOMING, and was gone to Texas Tech two years later.

You do this if you have foresight on where things are going. He’d probably get four years at least but why wait till then? Does anyone really believe it’s going to turn it around here? Does anyone have faith in Arthur or the administration to make drastic and urgent improvements to the support of this program and athletics as a whole?

I had a coach tell me this in March of 2023. “It doesn’t matter who Temple hires unless they can get NIL rollin … Anyone is gonna ask Arthur what's the NIL situation and when he gives them the same answer that got Aaron out of here they're gonna laugh in his face and say nah I'm good”

And I dont see it as quitting. He would be taking another job just like we all do. And while Miles and Wallace look promising, are high school recruits really moving the needle in 2025? Where are the “more resources” coming from in comparison to league and local peers? And the adversity you’re referring to - the gambling investigation that isn’t over - is a reason to leave.

I don’t know I could blame him with how Temple athletics/leadership operates. Northbroad already pointed out we are once again behind where we need to be being ready for revenue sharing so this would be more evidence of that.

All of this is sound logic and yet...

There's no truth to that tweet. He's not going anywhere - at least not like the original tweet intimated.

Now, if he wins it all in Fort Worth and wins a game or two in the tourney... I'll thank him for his service, nominate him for sainthood, and offer to help him pack for his next job, though I don't think he'd need the help considering Villanova's campus is closer than Temple's in relation to where he lives.

Oh yeah definitely wasn’t trying to insinuate that it’s happening, just that nothing would be so shocking to me

I’m not saying it would be “shocking” but he’s making a couple million right now. Why would he give that up right now when if he got fired, he’d end up at the exact same position two years from now. You’re comparing Wyoming to Temple, and although we are not doing a good job, we are still a more prominent program and university then Wyoming. Right now, Sundance Wicks is making $700,000 a year at Wyoming. L.O.L. Anyway, I’m glad fish isn’t going anywhere because it doesn’t make sense for him, and although the administration and the AD is horrible right now, it’s not impossible for him to turn things around.

I don't think Fisher makes a couple million dollars a year. Drayton and Carey made $2 million but I think Dunphy made $1.6 million at the end while Aaron made $1.2 million.

By a couple I meant 2 and if he doesn’t then I’m wrong, but either way, in what world does fish bounce right now for an AHC job? Just my opinion, but he’d land at the same spot if he got fired 2 years from now except he would have 4 years of HC experience and he’d be a few million dollars richer. Makes no sense even when the administration sucks. Taking a demotion and a salary cut at his age doesn’t make sense.

This is the nonsense that gets posted online, and people swallow the information without thinking for themselves. Yes Temple is a hard job because resources are lacking, is it the worst situation? No. If Fish fails, he will take his money and get a job as an assistant. Dumb Dumb post by coaching changes.

A winning season this year is a step in the right direction. The team certainly could have won more games but they had significant injuries and multiple players who were supposed to get key minutes out all season.

This team was 12-19 last year, Fishers seat isn’t even luke warm in my opinion.

So let me start by saying I agree with you fully, but I’d reframe “resources are lacking” as it implies the resources don’t exist. The frustrating part is that we do have untapped resources, Temple has just made a deliberate decision not to deploy those resources. We cannot be successful with the personnel we have in seat right now.

I prefer framing it this way because it illustrates how poorly our administration has managed this department.

Man, someone can post anything on the internet with vague “sources” from an unverified account and we create a 20+ post thread debating it. SMH.

Also, with much respect, let’s not throw numbers around regarding Adam’s salary without having actual data to support the argument. In fact, nobody truly knows what Adam makes until it’s released in the University’s report. IMO ain’t no way Temple is paying a second year basketball head coach (first year HC when contract signed) nearly as much as what we pay our football coach.

I'm on the same page, our administration and athletic leadership has failed. We think small and therefore have become lesser then we should be. The only hope for Temple athletics is if Fry has the cajones to give the department enough money to kick start an upward trend.

I find these threads somewhat comical. Fisher, who isn't even a .500 coach is somehow in great demand. Fisher knew the state of the program, where they were in NiL, who the AD was, etc. when hired. Frankly, there were other more qualified candidates being looked at but we took a chance on a young unproven coach, which is fine (was anyone else even looking at him for a HC position?). You also would realize when hiring someone like Fisher that if successful, he would likely be leaving for greener pastures in short order (another risk in hiring someone like Fisher).

Even if he was "looking" this is such a disaster? What has he shown so far to warrant another job? My view is if he doesn't get us to the tourney next year, or at least the NIT. we should move on. College basketball has changed dramatically and the old days of needing 4-5 years to build a program are gone. It's 2-3 years with the Portal and NiL (even less if you have an experienced coach that brings players with him). Easy to talk about money but Temple has always worked at a disadvantage and coaches had success (yes, different times but still challenges exacerbated by Temple's ineptitude, lack of donor support, etc. which will likely always be there in some capacity). Not saying leave status quo but as old as the Temple ineptitude is the whining about it, good people trying to change it or do things to assist on their own, etc.

We haven't had a President who really cared about sports since Liacouras. Have no idea where Fry stands other than some of his public statements but he can change the head of the athletic department if he wants to. If you think AJ is inept and Fry doesn't replace him, then it's business as usual.

Feeding the narrative to the extent anyone cares but appreciate the insight from NB that it’s not Fisher

There are two more logical candidates (1) Inglesby head coach at Delaware. Played PG and was Brey's assistant at ND. It appears from interviews that he is not enamored with Delaware's move to Conference USA. Finds it difficult enough to compete in the CAA and knows it will be much harder facing schools like Liberty, Western KY, Middle Tenn, UTEP etc. (2) I think Kyle Neptune sees the handwriting on the wall has made preparations to move on.

Ingelsby was the guy I had in mind too. And like at least the money and exposure is good in the American to justify being here. I would be so mad if I was Frank Martin with UMass going to the MAC or Ingelsby going to C-USA
