Hi.

So, as you've probably read or heard, Temple coach Geoff Collins' name has been thrown around a lot over the past week or so in regards to the open Georgia Tech job. Here's what we've been able to figure out.

There's been a lot of smoke around Ken Whisenhunt, a former Georgia Tech player, as Georgia Tech's first priority. According to Kelly Quinlan of JacketsOnline, Georgia Tech's Rivals site, who has thoroughly covered this search, there's fire to that smoke. Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury played ball with Whisenhunt at GT and has honed in on his former teammate as his top priority. According to Quinlan, Georgia Tech is in negotiations with Whisenhunt to become Georgia Tech's next coach. This matches up with what Brian Finneran, yes, that Brian Finneran, put out there yesterday about Whisenhunt being offered the position.

What does that mean for Collins?

Well, it's more than possible that Whisenhunt decides to stay in the NFL. After all, he's had a little bit of a career revival since taking over as the Chargers' offensive coordinator. This year, the Chargers are No. 4 in the NFL in total offense and were No. 6 in that category last year. Despite being offered by his alma mater, it's definitely possible that Whisenhunt, who was previously the head coach of the Cardinals and Titans, decides to stay in the pros in the hopes of getting one last head coaching job.

In the event that Whisenhunt stays put, Stansbury could pivot to Collins. As of right now, we've been able to confirm that Collins has not been interviewed for the job. That's not to say that Collins' camp hasn't expressed interest in the opening but, as of this morning, there has not been a formal interview between the two parties. Yes, Collins was in New York at the same time as Stansbury the past few days but so was the majority of the FBS, including Pat Kraft, Matt Rhule and others.

According to a source we spoke with, it's possible that Collins could interview for the job today or tomorrow, depending on Whisenhunt's decision. That's not a guarantee that Collins would be offered the job, however, as Stansbury could expand his search upon Whisenhunt's denial.

Basically, to summarize, it seems like Whisenhunt is Stansbury's primary choice. If Whisenhunt wants to the job, he'll get the job. Beyond that, things are way too fluid to nail down and we'll pass along what we know when we know it.
