In an unexpected turn of events, Temple quarterbacks coach Craig Harmon has resigned from his role within the program, OwlScoop.com has learned via multiple sources familiar with the situation. Harmon's departure comes in the middle of Temple's spring ball and leaves Temple coach Rod Carey with a vacancy at a crucial coaching spot.
Harmon came with Carey to Temple from Northern Illinois following the 2018 season after three years as the Huskies' quarterbacks coach and two seasons as the MAC program's tight ends coach. Harmon himself was a quarterback for NIU from 1998-2000 before transferring to Quincy University to finish his career.
During the 2020 season, Harmon's quarterbacks room experienced almost unprecedented fluidity as four different quarterbacks started for the Owls in just seven games. As a unit, the Owls passed for 1,466 yards, 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In 2019, Anthony Russo threw for 2,861 yards 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions under Harmon's tutelage.
Harmon's departure leaves Temple with an open on-field coaching spot. In the event that Carey decides to keep the job internal, offensive analyst Jake Landry, who coached the running backs at NIU in 2018, could be a likely candidate. Landry also has two season of offensive coordinator experience from his time at Division III Wisconsin-La Crosse and played quarterback at North Dakota from 2007-10. Carey was North Dakota's offensive line coach during the last three seasons of Landry's time there.
