Ventell Bryant will not play in tonight’s meeting with Navy at Lincoln Financial Field, sources told OwlScoop.com.
Bryant, a redshirt junior receiver, did not practice this week. He was originally disciplined by coach Geoff Collins for violations of team rules but has already been reinstated.
Sources told OwlScoop.com that Bryant did not commit any major infractions.
In Temple’s season opener at Notre Dame, Bryant did not travel with the team to South Bend due to what the Owls originally called a hamstring injury. However, sources told OwlScoop.com that Bryant did not make it to South Bend because of disciplinary reasons.
Shortly after Temple was blown out at Notre Dame, Collins announced that the No. 1, Bryant’s old number, would rotate on a weekly basis.
Bryant switched to No. 19, and Collins called it a “selfless” act by his receiver.
The No. 1 has certainly rotated – just never back to Bryant, who has watched fellow receivers Adonis Jennings and Isaiah Wright wear what used to be his number this season. Receiver Keith Kirkwood also wears No. 5 – the same number Collins wore during his playing days at Western Carolina.
Bryant, the team’s leading returning receiver, has struggled this season under a new coaching staff and offensive scheme. He has just 20 receptions for 180 yards and no touchdowns in seven games.
The status of Bryant moving forward remains unclear. Stay tuned to OwlScoop.com for further updates.
