In a way Temple deserves this (not saying we as fans do) but the institution has a very poor track record in its long history when it comes to advancing athletics. Save for hiring John Chaney (best thing they ever did, second to that hiring Matt Rhule).
We should have ponied up after Chaney retired to get a name and decent coach. We went cheap and we got cheap. You get what you pay for; it’s true.
We failed to protect our basketball brand. Took it for grant. So here we are.
A lot of the same people that hired Dunphy are still involved in Temples power structure.
It’s one thing to make a decision. What’s harder as a leader is to reverse course and pull the plug. I have seen so many failed acquisitions and divestitures because people pump money into projects and can’t stop themselves. It’s a too big to fail mentality enshrouded in politics often. Sadly pulling the plug on projects is not something highlighted in most MBA courses.
Anyways, I have no hope. None.
