Don't mean to start a new thread on the 6-4, 210-pound left-handed QB recruit from South Carolina if there is already a Beatty thread, but I just watched his HUDL tape from his junior year, and I'm elated he's coming to Temple.
I'm not one to make brash predictions, but I think this kid can start as a true freshman next season. He's thin and needs to get stronger, but he's a big, tall kid who can add muscle and plenty of weight. He's got a nice arm and can throw the deep ball, he has a nice touch on short passes, and he seems real poised in the pocket and makes good decisions, IMO. Mature beyond his years. He makes everything look easy and effortless. He's an excellent runner, too. Doesn't shy away from contact. Of course, I don't know what kind of competition his high school faces, but he looks pretty stellar to me.
It seems Collins redshirts every incoming freshman. I remember Centeio playing earlier this season, but it was mentioned on this board that somehow he'll be able to get his RS and still be a freshman next season. And I thought CB Christian Braswell might have gotten into a game on special teams recently, but I'm not positive. Could have read the number wrong with those black jerseys they wear sometimes. But those two are the only ones I can remember.
In Beatty's case, he may make it easy for Collins by proving in spring practice (He's graduating high school early and enrolling at Temple in December, he said) that he's ready to play right away. At least in a platoon system at worst.
It should be interesting to see the QB competition at Cherry & White Day.
