The Toledo Rockets, provided their heads are screwed on properly with the
coaching changes, will afford a formidable opponent for the Owls next week.
They have several good sized running backs behind an unbelievably tall, large
offensive line. Their quarterback play is adequate for a running attack. They
also have 10 seniors listed in the starting 22. I've seen them play several
times this year...they are tough! Many consecutive winning seasons!
Several years ago, pre Matt Ruhle the detractors of Coach Golden were quick to
address the fact that under him the Owls never beat a MAC team with a winning
record, I'm guessing that since we are not in the MAC anymore that it still is
factual situation. Now is the time to change that statistic.
The FAU stadium is a good comparison to any school looking to build a
"smaller" facility. East to access, lots of parking. Capacity 30K, engineered
by keen fund raising by Athletic Director, then Coach Howard Schnellenberger.
It was completed in 2011 at the cost of 70 million, the playing field named after
Coach Schnellenberger. Current attending figures are about 50% of capacity.
Hope everyone enjoys Florida!
