A few observations to pass along. And again, as always, keep in mind that we only see about the last 20 minutes or so of practice.
Aaron Ruff was getting some reps at left guard alongside James McHale at left tackle. I don't know that I'd expect him to necessarily compete for a starting job, but it looked like the staff decided to give him a look there today to see how he would respond. I saw him on a few snaps, and he looked OK. Didn't get beat.
Redshirt freshman Griffin Sestilli saw some reps at center.
Trad Beatty had a few nice throws during the period we saw today, including a back-shoulder toss down the sideline to Jeremy Jennings, another completion to Jennings and a throw to freshman Sean Ryan, who seems to have impressed early on. Beatty later was picked off by Delvon Randall just before practice wrapped up.
Anthony Russo hit Branden Mack on a long touchdown toss down the right sideline near the end of practice.
