It's that time of year again when we might as well all have attended Lock Haven or Brandeis because like those people, we are relegated to only watching on a television... if we're even interested enough to do that. And so to put things into some perspective for us, about how miserable our basketball program has been, here are some Sweet 16 factoids to consider...
1. Since we last appeared in the Sweet Sixteen in 2001, there have 84 different teams to appear in the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
2. That is approximately 23% - 24% of the entire division 1 college basketball universe.
3. Since we last appeared, 9 out of 10 of the Big 12 schools have done it (only TCU has not).
4. Since we last appeared, HALF... 7/14 of the Atlantic 10 schools... the league we left for greener pastures, have done it.
5. Since we last appeared, 5 other American Conf schools have done it.
6. Since we last appeared, EVERY SINGLE ACC SCHOOL has done it. Every single one. Every one.
7. Since we last appeared, the Pac 12, which is basically a mid major league, has had 8 of their 12 schools do it... only ones that have not made it are Arizona State, California, Colorado, Oregon State.
8. Since 2001, Duke Kansas Kentucky Michigan State and North Carolina have all done it 10 times or more.
9. Since 2001, Villanova has done it 6 times.
10. Since 2001, St Joseph's and LaSalle have done it.
