Both got 6th seeds, does that spell trouble for the American? Here is how both teams ended the year #11 SMU (30-4, RPI 13) and #18 Cincy (29-5, RPI 12). Honesty, I think Cincy got a fair seed but SMU seems to be a under seeded. I think its safe to say both would have been a higher seed if they played in a different conference but the fact the SMU got a 6th seed is very troubling to me. SMU has won 16 straight, been 26-1 since Dec. 2nd, and ended the season ranked in the top 15. They had a number of bad losses but still ended the year with a 13 RPI. Although, I think the reason behind the weak seeding is the conference's lack of NCAA success and OC wins against power conferences. As a conference I have been really disappointed with our in ability to win or even schedule P5 opponents.
