One would think at this point in a mans career you might take some time to self-reflect and figure out why you have the worst tournament record of all
active coaches in the NCAA. Is it the type of kid you recruit? Is it the lack of recruiters on the staff? Is it game day coaching? Is it prep? Is it lack of desire? Lack of University support? Is it….is it…..is it????
In all human endeavor people are brought to a crossroads of accepting failure and moving on to something else or looking at failure and learning from it. Attempting to figure out the reasons for failure are all about self- reflection. Some choose to try again, while others move on. Rarely does one try again without making noticeable changes along the way. This is the single instance in my life where I have witnessed decades of failure and conceivably an attempt to move forward while doing so without noticing any fundamental change. It’s almost as if this Coach does not think he’s failing. Maintaining a winning record somehow doesn’t represent failure to this Coach or our Mid-Major Board of Fraudees. I remember back a decade where Johnny D asked Fran about the recruiting failures. I remember Fran's response like it was 10 minutes ago and not 10 years ago. The response was, "What recruiting failures?" This was at a point when we were losing all recruiting battles to the likes of St. Joe's and Lasalle. I guess I'm not surprised a decade later we are where we are.
My guess is Frans handicap hasn’t gotten worse in the last two decades. Why are his NCAA teams continuing to flounder in mediocrity year after year after year?? If I didn’t care I wouldn’t take the time to write this posts and continue to follow from a distance. It killed me to give up my seats after holding them for 17 years, but a decade of continued frustration with no apparent sense of urgency from this staff or from our BOF’s caused me to move on.
The most troubling part is that our Board of Fraudees continues to accept mediocrity and is obviously perfectly content continuing with our well-deserved title of Mid-Major U. While our AD is an exceptional young talent who must be pulling his hair out, we are lucky to have him, although I don't know how long MMU will be able to keep him.
Long after Fran is gone, we'll still be here. As fans and alum we have the right to force change from these temporary seat holders..... While Temple University remains about the only school in this Galaxy that doesn't mandate term limits for Board of Trustee members, I believe we still have a right to force change. Perhaps that should also be a public bone of contention. Might I suggest we start doing something???
