I had a few free minutes and looked at all of the coaches that turn 60 this season,or are older, in the 9 top conferences in America (the Power 5, AAC, A-10, Big East and Mountain West). I wanted to see how many times they have guided a team to the Sweet 16 or further. As you'll see, Dunphy keeps some very select company:
Kelvin Sampson - 3
Larry Brown - 4
Bob McKillop - 1
Martelli - 2
Coach K - 21
Leonard Hamilton - 2
Pitino - 13
Jim Larranaga - 2
Boeheim - 15
Lon Kruger - 4
Tubby Smith - 9
Bob Huggins - 7
John Beilein - 4
Izzo - 13 - turns 60 this month
Larry Eustachy - 1
Steve Fisher - 6
Ernie Kent - 2 - turns 60 this month
Rick Barnes - 6
Now for the "Big Boys"
Eddie Jordan - 0 (only his 3rd season as a college coach) - turns 60 this month
Larry Shyatt - 0 (11 seasons at Clemson and Wyoming)
Jim Crews - 0 (wouldn't have his job if Rick Majerus hadn't died)
Fran Dunphy - 0.0
This truly illustrates the idiocy of what we are doing with a 67 year old. We are all smart guys. How do we reclaim our program, and give ourselves a CHANCE to succeed?
