Temple is back involved with former Imhotep offensive lineman Johncarlo Valentin. The Owls extended an offer Tuesday.
I checked in with a source familiar with Valentin's recruitment and was told that Baylor and Iowa State happen to be making a strong push for his services.
In 2015, Temple was heavily in the mix for Valentin until he ended up committing to and signing with Oklahoma in January. He did not end up qualifying academically, and was forced to enroll at Lackawanna College.
And Temple recently offered one of Valentin's former high school teammates in Jahmir Johnson, who's set to graduate from Arizona Western College in December. Johnson originally signed with Rhode Island out of Imhotep.
According to Johnson's Rhode Island bio, he enrolled on campus as a freshman but redshirted.
When Johnson was being recruited out of Imhotep, he never held a legitimate Temple offer. The new staff, led by Geoff Collins, seems to have a different evaluation of Johnson two years later.
The Owls also sent out a birthday graphic to 2018 JUCO defensive back Haki Woods, Jr. of Pima Community College in Tucson.
Temple extended an offer to Woods last week.
Wood decommitted from Arizona, where he had been verbally committed to for two years, the same day he landed a Temple offer. He has also added an offer from Oregon since reopening his recruitment.
For those concerned about Temple's depth along the offensive line, the staff is certainly looking for immediate reinforcements by way of JUCO players. The Owls will also have a need at cornerback after this season, as the two starting boundary corners in Artrel Foster and Mike Jones are both redshirt seniors. And Temple will also lose safety Sean Chandler, a four-year starter, to graduation.
