Geoff Collins was on The American's weekly coaches call earlier today.
Here is my story from Collins' portion on the call.
When asked about the lack of production from Ventell Bryant and Keith Kirkwood, Collins shared that Kirkwood has been dealing with an unspecified injury over the last two weeks. Kirkwood only had no receptions against South Florida and only one catch for 15 yards in last Saturday's loss to Houston. The Hawaii transfer also had a 30-yard catch overturned after a questionable call.
That questionable call was one of at least a handful that Temple was not pleased with. Collins said the Owls usually send four or five plays to The American for further explanation. This week, Collins said that number is "triple."
I asked Collins about the status of placekicker Austin Jones. There was a report that Jones will miss the remainder of the season and receive a medical redshirt due to soreness from a torn ACL suffered last October. We confirmed the report with a person close to the program. For now, Collins would not completely rule Jones out for the rest of the season, although he acknowledged that the senior kicker has been "fighting through" some sort of health issue.
Temple later released its "above the line" depth chart Monday afternoon. It does not include Jones, who could transfer after the season to another FBS program and play immediately.
The depth chart also no longer features both left guard Jovahn Fair and running back Jager Gardner, who's out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Fair has been dealing with an apparent leg injury. Collins said Temple is "trying to" get Fair back for East Carolina.
With Gardner done for the season, walk-on Travon Williams moved from receiver to running back on the depth chart. Williams is joined by Ryquell Armstead and David Hood at tailback.
A new addition to the depth chart - redshirt senior defensive tackle Greg Webb, a former highly touted recruit from Hutchinson Community College (Kansas) by way of South Jersey powerhouse Timber Creek.
