Temple has hired E.J. Barthel as the Coordinator of Campus Recruiting, according to a press release.

Barthel, who's the former Director of Recruiting at Rutgers under Kyle Flood, had been working on Matt Rhule's staff on a volunteer basis since December.

Here's the full release:

PHILADELPHIA - Temple Football announced the hiring of E.J. Barthel as Coordinator of On-Campus Recruiting. His responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of recruiting for the football team.

A former standout running back for Becton Regional High in East Rutherford, N.J., Barthel has used his wealth of experience and contacts to attract some of the area's top recruits. Prior to joining the Owls, he worked for Rutgers in player development and as recruiting coordinator under head coach Kyle Flood.

Barthel was recruited to play running back at Rutgers and spent three injury plagued seasons with the Scarlett Knights (2003-05). He transferred to UMass where he played for two seasons and earned a sociology degree in 2008. After graduation, Barthel was offered a tryout with the New York Giants in 2009 and later became a running back for the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives.

Following his playing career, Barthel moved to the sidelines where he coached at DePaul Catholic High (2012) and Bergen Catholic (2013). He then spent time training high school athletes before joining Rutgers.

Barthel is single and resides in Philadelphia Pa.
