Dunphy alone lost the game against Saint Joseph's. The following mistakes were atrocious: .
a) He left Coleman in the game despite not only struggling offensively and taking awful shots, but also getting beat off the dribble consistently (final box score for him, 0 for 7 from the field and 0 for 4 from 3 )
b) Lets the young stud Lowe rot on the bench while Coleman stinks it up and the team struggles offensively.
c) Once again, brings Mark Williams in the game and destroys the team's momentum.
d) REFUSES to go to zone during most of the game even though his players are constantly being beat off the dribble (mostly notably Coleman who again, he refused to take out the game despite poor play -- even the commentators kept urging Temple to go zone!)
e) Finally goes to zone, it's effective, but then goes back to man to man once the team gets back in the game; the team then goes back to getting beat off the dribble and struggling defensively (the man is drunk on his stubbornness)
f) Lets SJU dribble the clock down in OT without ordering his players to pressure in an attempt to get a turnover (the commentators thought Temple should have just fouled on SJU's final possession to extend the game - that seemed like a good idea compared to Dunphy's idiotic idea of just being content with Temple -- at best -- just getting a defensive stop and getting the ball with 5 seconds left and having to take and miss a wild shot like OBI eventually did, losing the game)
The game against SJU was so winnable and much needed, and Dunphy lost it with horrible coaching and negligence. I feel bad for these kids. They have a coach that's clearly already enjoying his twilight years and he's running the program into the ground. I have never had this much contempt for a coach being the head of a team I support. Never. At this point, the team may need to crash and burn like 2013/2014 to drive this guy into early retirement. His presence is toxic towards the prestige of this basketball program (what's left of it).
