Good article in the local paper regarding possible solutions to the decline in college football game attendance, notably in the football crazy SEC. Linking the story would permit only the first few to read it so you might Google the headline:

UF, SEC administrators looking for ways to fill stadiums.

One factor not addressed in the story is one I sense is "an elephant in the room" that tastes, particularly among the younger, are changing nationwide. That younger people are developing different lifestyles with different social and entertainment preferences which increasingly do not include attending football games or even paying attention to games via any media including social and mobile media..
