In case you hadn't heard, the UConn - USF and Memphis-UCF games have been cancelled due to concerns regarding Hurricane Irma. It's unlikely that either of these conference games will be rescheduled.
According to Chuck Sullivan from The American, division champions are determined by winning percentage in conference games. Meaning that UConn, USF and UCF are at a disadvantage because they will only play seven conference games. For example, let's pretend that Temple somehow goes 7-1 with a loss to South Florida. South Florida wins all of its conference games except for its game against UCF and finishes with a 6-1 record. Despite losing to South Florida and having the same number of losses, Temple would win the division because its conference winning percentage of 87.5% is higher than USF's conference winning percentage of 85.7%.
Basically, these cancelled games eliminate the head to head tiebreaker between Temple and UCF/USF/UConn as its impossible for the two schools to finish with the same conference winning percentage.
While Temple has a long, long way to go (Starting with righting the ship against Villanova tomorrow) before it starts thinking about potentially winning the division for the third straight year, it's still something to keep an eye on.
